The only issue is that Charlie, against his better judgement, is falling in love with him.

Summary
Maybe he was always meant to end up like this. All the decisions he made in his life, at the time presumed as an act of free will, but all along a part of some convoluted plan—kismet, predestination, fate—whatever it was, maybe he was always supposed to end up here, in this liminal space where time seems to stand still and his mind just won’t stop conjuring these beautiful, however heart-shattering images, with a speed reminding him that there is, in fact, no way to stop time. There is no way to stop this all-consuming ache in his chest, that seems to only get more and more unbearable each day he spends in Nick’s presence.
or: Nick is Charlie's new housemate, and Charlie develops a crush. Obviously. It's less angsty than in seems.

“Yeah, so, I’m gay. That’s not going to be a problem, is it?” He asks, though there’s only one answer to the question that doesn’t end with Charlie storming out and demanding the housing office give him a new roommate.
“Oh god, no. No, that’s not—I’m sorry—I promise it’s not,” Nick races to say, clearly flustered. “I’m not homophobic, I promise. I’m sorry I made you think that. I’m an ally,” he says, holding his fist up, as if in solidarity.
or: After a last minute roommate change, Charlie Spring finds himself sharing a dorm with the hottest man he’s ever seen. Nick Nelson is kind, lovely, funny, accepting, and worst of all, straight. A fact that is unfortunately not going to stand in the way of Charlie’s ever growing feelings.

“But you got me thinking last night,” says Nick. “I couldn’t stand that you thought I just wanted to throw you a—a—”
“Pity fuck?” Charlie smirks over his tea.
Nick shakes his head and digs into his own pastry. “Yes, that. You’ve been waiting all these years to meet someone who makes you feel safe and loved. And God, Charlie, you’re my best friend. Of course I want you to have that experience for your first time. So many people’s first times are utter shit. Mine was utter shit. I’d be an awful friend if I didn’t want you to have the best possible experience.”
Charlie has no idea where he’s going with this.
“So,” Nick says, a little nervous, “if you don’t want the first experience to be with me, then as your best friend, I feel it is my duty to help you find the person it will be with. If you want.”

He might still be a little tipsy, but he swears he sees Elle hide a smile behind her hand, faking a yawn. “Oh, you’re sharing with Charlie, babes.”
Lord have fucking mercy.
“Sorry,” Tao says, sounding not a bit sorry, “but Isaac gets the master bedroom because he’s paying for the lion’s share of the AirBnB, and Elle and I have the other bedroom to ourselves. It just makes sense.”
Nick can’t help the way his voice snaps. “Were there no AirBnBs in Lyme that had four bedrooms?”
Isaac shrugs. “It’s a small town.”
Well, Nick’s not always quick on the draw, but he’s not an idiot. He knows he’s being fucked with. The question is, does Charlie know it, too?
