Richard waves a bit, trying to smile reassuringly. Jared startles back, as if he's surprised Richard can see him, and shuts the curtain completely. Richard leaves. He doesn’t give up, though.

“I should, uhm, I should go. Get, uh, get my stuff. And, like, leave.” Seeming to only just then remember himself, Richard spared a shocked glance for their still-joined hands.
“‘Palm to palm is holy palmer’s kiss'.” Jared whispered, half hoping Richard wouldn’t hear him. Half praying desperately that he did.
Richard pulled away quickly, as though he had been burned, but his face flushed prettily again. As he bolted off in what Jared felt positive was the wrong direction, Jared sighed. What a fascinating creature. What a perfect person to devote one's entire existence to. -

Richard needed space to figure out how to talk to Jared again, how to let him know that Richard wasn’t some tech messiah anymore and that Jared needed to stop treating him like he was something special when he was just some guy now. Or maybe he’d go on this whole global adventure thing, and Eat Pray Love himself into being a better person, a better friend. Here's hoping.
