When Chris’ face hit the concrete, his blood spurting onto the ground beside him, all he could think in response to Robert’s retort was, “Damn. That’s cool. He totally owned the fuck out of me.” And then, “Fuck, I’m dying.”
Chris’s exact, last ever, final thought, though, was Rick Flag. The darkening yellow of his shirt as it stretched across his chest, dirty at the top from the sweat that poured out of all of them in that club. Hot and grubby. Rick’s eyes had glanced over from where he had been standing with Robert, and then he’d lifted his glass to Chris and smiled.
Chris felt his mouth smile in response, even at the memory.
“Weird,” Chris groaned. Then he did. He died.
