It hasn’t been even a week since Leon Kennedy’s arrival at the RPD, but he’s already been causing problems with STARS member Chris Redfield. Their screaming matches are soap opera-worthy, and it's driving the entire police department insane.
But Leon and Chris don’t actually hate each other. In fact, they’re in a relationship—one they feel they have to hide from their colleagues because it’s the 90s, they’re in the American Midwest, and it would be weird for everyone. So to avoid suspicion, what do they do? Pretend to be enemies. Because surely a workplace rivalry would be less awkward than a workplace romance.

Being the great friend that he is, Leon offers his apartment to Chris so he won't have to spend a fortune on a dirty hotel room. As they find themselves spending more time together and growing closer, Leon begins to think that maybe there could be something more between them than just friendship.

His plans are stymied when he’s stopped on the way back to work by a man who wants to take his photo and chat with him. When the man asks about love, he tells him about his secret love for his best friend. Little does Dean know his secret will soon be revealed.
This fic is inspired by Humans of New York, a popular Facebook page that tells true stories about everyday people in New York (and elsewhere).
