Summary
Darry didn’t deserve to work like an old man when he was only twenty. He had been a real popular guy in school; he was captain of the football team and he had been voted Boy of the Year. But we just didn’t have the money for him to go to college, even with the athletic scholarship he won. And now he didn’t have time between jobs to even think about college.
Ponyboy doesn't know everything. Darry had been going to night classes, had been faking it. Until he runs into Paul again.

Summary
From Johnny: Wounded and Cruel, by Angela Shepard (Vogue Magazine, October 1, 1981):
Kathleen Mathews doesn't strike anyone as a joker anymore, even almost twenty years on from the events of September 1965. Previously, many described her as someone easy to laugh with, easy to speak with. In front of me now, I can only see a tall, dignified woman with an accumulation of losses in her sixties, with her red hair fading into a burnished gold leaking to white, with crows feet, as she waters her plants.
Of the Tulsa Survivors, she remains one of the oldest that are still living, and the only one who was able to save both of her children.
Eyes turn to the aftermath of Johnny Cade's rampage on the town of Tulsa for a brief moment.

Bookmarker's Notes
This was nuts and I would read a whole book about this specific story. I would read Kathleen's whole interview if I were alive in this story, and I would re-read it until the pages are worn and that specific issue of vogue is tattered.
