Summary
When Graham Landry moves to Pelican Town to kickstart the supposedly haunted Hayes Farm, he isn't surprised to find that the farm is, in fact, definitely not haunted (at least according to him). What he finds instead is Shane Carver, four hundred days and counting into his longest-running bout of sobriety. Shane has a white-knuckled grip on the bandwagon that is sober living and is doing everything he can to follow the Twelve Steps. That doesn't leave room for any distractions, much less a relationship with the new farmer in town who Shane finds a bit more charming than he'd like to admit. Yet as his friendship with Graham deepens, Shane learns to live by the one and only rule of Alcoholics Anonymous: Don't take yourself so damn seriously.

“Hey, hey, what are you doing, man?” Alex started speaking before even taking his headphones out of his ears, short breath clipping his words. A hand, broad and tan, slammed down on the wooden counter possessively. “This is my ice cream stand.”
The umbrella pole squeaked its offense when the stranger smacked against it, standing with sonic speed. His hands were clutching several different bottles of cream and an oversized box of sugar, and Alex could see mug after mug lined up under the back countertop.
“I’m sorry— I asked the-the Mayor,” The man started speaking suddenly, jolting Alex’s attention to his eyes, brown and starry and wide. His hair, dyed a bright teal, tumbled into them and shook with his words. “He said th-that you only didn’t— didn’t use it last summer? And I meant to come over and ask and introduce myself first, but—”
Without Alex even asking, his brain supplied commentary: Stuttering. Cute— Cute? Why cute?

Jen's never had a green thumb, but after leaving her soul-sucking city career, she's invested everything in renovating her grandfather's farm in Stardew Valley. (Call it a pre-mid-life crisis.) And since moving to his aunt's ranch with his young goddaughter, Shane's been slow to adapt to country living--but he does know a thing or two about chickens. Both outsiders with pasts they hope won't follow them to the valley, both lonely, neither went looking for the bond that begins to form between them... all because of a chicken coop.
