Danny noticed the first flake of gold during a lesson with Frostbite. The older ghost was teaching him how to use his ice powers more effectively, both in combat and outside of it. They were working outside of the village, because most of the other yetis still didn’t want to be around while Danny was practicing, because of the freezing incident. Incidents. Phantom screamed.
Even with the muzzle on, it was enough to make everyone pause, including Operative C, because it wasn't a vengeful cry from a ghost or a poor mimicry of human emotion; it was the sound of a child in excruciating pain.
It was enough to flip the switch in Maddie between her head and her heart.
Maddie and Jack are over the moon when the GIW invite them to witness the vivisection of the one and only Danny Phantom, but once it's actually happening, they are hit with the realization that there may be a lot more to ghosts than they always believed there to be. Parental instincts taking over, they decide to do the only thing that feels right: rescue the ghost boy, take him home and nurture him back to health. Needless to say, it results in a few more surprises.

The skin finally flicked off, landing in a heap on the ground and Danny grinned as he turned to his two friends and the quickly approaching Skulker. Sam and Tucker met his gaze with twin looks of disgust.
“What?!” Danny demanded, crossing his arms over his chest defensively, “You didn’t have to watch!”
Tucker shook his head and eyed the crumpled pile of Danny’s body. “Can't you at least… fold it?”
