She was like a ghost, haunting him with every breath he took, weighing him down like chains that refused to break regardless of how hard he tried, reminding him of all that he had done and failed to do.
He had tried to escape her since that fateful day they parted, had prayed that the shadow that followed him would fade together with the memory of her, but even as time took away all that he knew, the memory of her remained.
So when he saw her disappear through the portal, he didn't hesitate to follow her into the darkness once more.
