May 2009— one year before the death of Magnolia Shorty and four after Katrina had made landfall in New Orleans— Lestat arrived in the United States, not on tour and not even stopping in New York, because for once there was no one he wanted to see. He was bored with what was happening in Paris and hadn’t been working, so he decided to go to the South because it was where the best music was— certainly the most creative production right now was not by that insufferable hack David Guetta, but Timbaland and Missy Elliott.
Lestat first saw Louis on his fourth day in New Orleans; the previous night he had met two charming women in the smoking section of a loud but uninspired club who told him that if he wanted something a little more fun, he should go to Andromeda on Saturday.
