Summary
Beneath the locker room light, Jannik sits on a bench, towel over his shoulders. He’s bent forward, scrolling on his phone, and the angle makes the freckles on his face stand out more than usual — scattered across cheekbones, hidden at the bridge of his nose, faint constellations.
Carlos can’t stop staring. He wonders if anyone else ever counts them, if anyone else knows how they darken under the sun.
The urge rises in him, strange and sudden, to map them with a fingertip.
He looks away before he does something reckless.Carlos doesn’t fall in love in one moment. He falls in all of them.

Summary
Loyalty bleeds inside of him, big and bright and important. He needs a collar, or a leash, anything that had Jannik’s name on it, to show that Carlos belonged to him, that they were intertwined with one another and no one, not even Germán, could stake their claim on Carlos, because Jannik had gotten there first, name wrapped tight around Carlos’ neck.
or: Carlos wants Jannik, but he can’t have him. So he gets the next best thing, from someone who actually wants him, and pretends like it’s enough.

Summary
Jannik Sinner is a beta. But, with his height, he could've been an alpha. There's strength in him, and sometimes, when he scores a good point, when Carlos knows Jannik feels in control, he'll shake the racket in his hand – as close to a celebration as he will usually allow himself to give –, and his eyes will look just dark enough. Threatening. Dominating.
Carlos doesn't let himself think about the other possibility. About the wide hips and the legs that go on for fucking miles, and the shyness and the awkwardness in interviews and the hard-won smiles. Because if Jannik were an omega – well, that would be a dangerous thought, wouldn't it?

Summary
When Thomas Lawrence came by the papal apartments that evening, he came, unsurprisingly, with a bundle of papers under his arm.
Vincent tried on and discarded four separate teasing comments about it, but didn’t get to decide on one before Thomas silently handed them over, and he realized they were newspapers, opened and refolded over the weekly comics, his favorite. Three of them, one for each week he’d been away.
Ah, he thought, with the feeling of a sudden hard deceleration in his chest, the press it put on his heart. Ah. All right then.
