Summary
No one would’ve guessed that, fifteen years after the war, Harry Potter would be such a mess. Freshly divorced, estranged from his ex-wife and only daughter, he’s fighting demons he no longer tries to name. So when Draco bloody Malfoy appears at the Magical theatre and then vanishes without acknowledging him—Harry makes a mistake. Or maybe, just maybe, it’s the first thing he’s done right in years.
Excerpt:
“So, Malfoy.” Harry cleared his throat, suddenly nervous. “How have you been?”
It didn’t interrupt the weirdest line of events of that night when Malfoy, instead of a proper answer, simply rolled his eyes.
“Granger?”
“Yes?” Hermione asked, resigned.
“Take the Saviour someplace else, would you?”
“I will.”

Was Draco a villain? Harry didn’t think so. Hadn’t for awhile. But there was a certain detachment to him. A perceived apathy that made Harry regard him as something less than human. Harry was only just identifying that coldness for what it was: A front. A necessity. Because villains might not be well received, but they got shit done.
Draco wasn’t one of Charlie's fiery beasts. He was a snake.
Harry liked snakes, though. He spoke their language.

They approached one another with the distinction of gladiators, prepared to fight to the death in a display of debased gore. The crowd screamed around them, cameras flashing excitedly at the clasp of their hands. 'Fire and Ice Together Again!' the headlines would read. Draco squeezed his fingers, not in a display of strength so much as a reminder- this was real. He was here, with Harry. They were about to play a game together.
He doubts they ever stopped. It was never really about Quidditch, was it?
