Summary
Emily Prentiss' close childhood friend vanished over Christmas vacation of 1983, and she never learned what happened. She knew the statistics, though. Knew how slim a chance a thirteen-year-old boy had to survive even twenty-four hours past his last known sighting. Even three decades later she never had the guts to look it up and know the truth, though, preferring to remember Bucky Sheppard as the happy, bright, kind boy he'd been.
Emily Prentiss is also one of the few people known to have seen the Shepherd of Death and lived to tell the tale. She knew his profile, though. Knew the only other recorded survivors were all children below the age of fifteen. All she knows is that he didn't kill her. He even helped her keep her cover in place with Doyle and the IRA, likely at great risk to himself. Even a decade later she still isn't sure why he left her alive.
But a case in Des Moines, Iowa might just bring an answer to one too many of Emily Prentiss' greatest mysteries.
