Summary
“That’s right. And I’ve got a proposition for you all. It’s a big ask, I know, but I’ve been thinking about it since they locked me away. I want to start a magazine of our own. I’m calling it Defiant.”
“A new magazine?” Kay breathed.
“The kind of magazine that’s not afraid to publish stories about Negro captains and strong heroines,” said Benny. “One not beholden to the likes of Pabst and the owners. We’d be the owners.”

Summary
Garak woke, scanned the room. He selected an outfit for himself and, despite the fact he knew few of Terok Nor’s new inhabitants would appreciate it, dressed himself up as nicely as he was able. As he raked a t’ssavit through his black, feathery hair—
Garak paused and glanced discreetly around the room. It appeared as empty as it had last time he checked. Of course. It was probably nothing. Garak forced himself to resume his task.
As he raked a t—
Garak froze. There it was again. He was definitely hearing a voice.

Summary
At Farpoint, Q had been sure, so sure, that this Jean-Luc Picard would be nothing. Humans, one of the worst of the galaxy’s species, hateful, cruel, nothing compared to the Continuum. Hubris, the imbecilic hubris of Icarus flying into the Sun, mocking it for its brightness.
In Picard’s bed, clutching his sleeping form, listening to his captain’s gentle snoring, Q wondered if the Sun seemed beautiful to Icarus. If the warmth was comforting. If the wax dripping down his arms felt like a lover’s caress. If he knew the story he was acting out and embraced it all the same.
Jean-Luc. Captain of the Enterprise. The undoing of everything. Q could feel the feathers falling from him into the ocean when he looked at him, the wax, heard the cries of Daedalus begging for him to come down, desperate, pleading. He heard the roar of the waves too, in the distance, but in the heat of the Sun, what did it matter? How could he turn away?

Summary
Agent Bashir relaxed, and re-holstered his weapon. He knew that wouldn’t be the last of them, but they were safe for now.
He turned back to the woman in his arms, and froze. This wasn’t right. The damsel in distress he’d just rescued, the beautiful lady with sleek black hair had been replaced by—oh, Julian was going to kill (like actual, in-cold-blood, get-sent-to-prison MURDER) Felix for this—a perfect likeness of Garak.
In which Julian has to contend with holographic versions of Garak showing up in his spy program, and all the Feelings that ensue.

Summary
It isn’t until the ball after his wedding that Julian can actually find a moment’s peace.
Richard and Amsha have been hovering since the retinue returned to Subatoi, though only God knows why. Julian won’t leave again—that flighty foolishness is behind him, and he’s truly happy to be married. And yet, still: if he wasn’t actively with one or both of his parents, he was being shadowed by Sloan, their recently appointed director of information, a man with stark features and an air of smirking condescension that would probably be faintly infuriating, if Julian had the energy to be infuriated.
But tonight, finally, for a blessing: when the room began to spin and faces began to blur, and he searched desperately for some manner of escape, he actually found one.
—
The day the Subatoi retinue came to Desnine, Julian changed his mind and returned to his parents before ever reaching that mountain path—or so he thinks.

Summary
“Doctor Bashir is trapped in the holosuites,” Rom says, when they arrive to find him parked at an open panel on the bar’s third floor.
Garak fixes Quark with the kind of stare that’s broken better men. “You probably could have started with that.”
Quark perks somewhat, sensing opportunity. “Does that mean you won’t actually need that favor I promised you?”
“It does not,” Garak says, because he isn’t feeling charitable.
—
It's Julian's turn to be trapped in the holosuites, and it's up to Garak to protect him! Featuring spy shenanigans, copious banter, and all the flirting you'd expect and more.

Summary
"No, it's fine," Julian said automatically. "But, Garak, is everything all right?"
"Captain Sisko wanted to see me," Garak said—which was so conspicuous a refusal to answer the question Julian had asked that it almost didn't qualify as an evasion. He pulled out the chair opposite Julian, and sat.
"Captain Sisko? Why?"
"Well, apparently," Garak said, "Cardassia has lodged a formal request with the Federation for my extradition."
(Or: Garak has a problem. Julian marries him to fix it. Except that means Julian also has a problem, albeit of a very different kind.)
