Akaashi took a breath, willing the rest of the words to come out. He’d been on the opposite side of this conversation enough times to know how it was supposed to go. Those words, spoken by Bokuto at seventeen, nineteen, twenty-two, had hurt enough to linger, timbre and pitch and intensity all burned into the worn-down edges of his memory: Akaashi, I’m seeing someone!
“Bokuto-san,” he said, his own voice hoarse and cracking. “I’ve been seeing someone.”

Like an idiot, he’d thought it was the pull of the farm rather than the farmer.

Summary
The park they used to walk through after practice is nearly empty. The air is soft, pink petals drifting down like snow, clinging to Akaashi’s blazer, to the cuffs of his sleeves. Everything looks the same as it did last year.
Except Akaashi won’t meet his eyes.
“What do you mean?” Bokuto asks, finally. His voice comes out low. Not his usual booming pitch—this is the kind of voice he only uses when he’s afraid of the answer.
Because Bokuto is too much. He’s always been too much.
Too loud, too emotional, too big for quiet places like this—where cherry blossoms float gently and people speak in half-whispers. Where Akaashi fits so easily, so delicately, like a bookmark in a story that Bokuto can’t seem to read without tearing the pages by accident.
“I mean…” Akaashi begins, and Bokuto already hates the way he says it, like he’s rehearsed this. Like it’s a line in a script. “I think we need to work on ourselves, Bokuto-san.”
It’s a bitter December day when Bokuto Koutarou spots Akaashi Keiji at the MSBY Black Jackals fan event—and promptly prepares to die.

Summary
“Your Highness,” Feng Xin says carefully, “what do you…how much do you remember?”
“Clearly, he remembers enough,” Mu Qing snaps. He waves an emphatic hand. “He’s happy to see us, isn’t he?”
“Ah, it’s really alright, I remember most things,” Xie Lian says, placating. “I just don’t…”
His eyes skitter nervously towards Hua Cheng and then away again; the tension in Hua Cheng’s shoulders, in his entire body, stretches closer to snapping. It feels like every muscle is straining under the weight of this, like every cell in his body is rebelling against this…this horror.
Still, he manages to say what Xie Lian apparently cannot: “He just doesn’t remember me.”

Summary
After Hua Cheng disappears in a flurry of silver butterflies, Xie Lian waits for his return. Rumours whisper across the land. Crimson Rain Sought Flower has returned and is ruling over Ghost City. And he doesn't remember Xie Lian at all.
“Did daozhang think he could come here, flash his enchanted eyes, and pull one over on the Ghost King?” Hua Cheng coos.
Xie Lian’s teeth begin to chatter. “My enchanted…my…aha—”
“I have never seen a performance quite like it in all my long years. Daozhang must be very experienced in getting his way just by fluttering his long lashes. But is he truly foolish enough to believe this act will work on me? Does he think I will fall for his tricks?”

Or: Hua Cheng is cursed and has no memory of his beloved. Xie Lian takes a job in Ghost City to try to get Hua Cheng to fall in love with him again before he dissipates.
