It roared, and she and Merlin were on the ground, and for just a moment, she caught a glimpse of the gold in Merlin’s eyes. Why wasn’t he doing anything?
Then with a pang like a sword in the stomach, she realized he didn’t want to use his magic where she could see.
“Do it,” she said. “Please, Merlin, it’s okay. Use your magic.”
She realized immediately that this was a mistake because Merlin stared at her with startled horror that had nothing to do with the monster.

Summary
Smaller satellite bases, such as the one Jecra and a small portion of those he commands are stationed on, simply are not fully equipped for long-term accommodation for many of the species the GSA houses. With well over two hundred unique species are catalogued in the ranks, the stars they come from are equally diverse. Making everyone comfortable is impossible. Most of his unit have not been here long enough to even begin feeling the effects, and for this the leader thanks the stars.
