“I can show you.” The words left his mouth without any conscious intention on his part, so Johan looked just as surprised as Judai did when their eyes met.
Johan frantically tried to think of something to say. “I was just joking. In Sweden, we joke about kissing our friends a lot. Sorry, it’s a weird cultural thing that doesn’t translate well.” Or “…the new card I got! I can show you… my new card! It’s a card called ‘Gay and Stupid’ and it has a picture of me on it.” Or -
“Okay.”
Johan was startled out of his panicked thoughts. “What?”
Judai was looking at him with the kind of excited resolve he wore before a duel. “I said okay.”

Summary
As a child, Judai ran away from home before his memories were ever wiped and reunited with Yubel in Professor Cobra's care. He promised to never let anything separate them again, and spent his teen years in America as Cobra's second son.
Now in his final year of school, Judai returns to Japan to visit Duel Academia as the West campus's champion. He's got plans to have a good time and help his father make a statement at the central campus with the Disclosure Duel system, but he doesn't know that his spirit partner, still corrupted by the Light of Destruction, has plans of their own - and that several other people's agendas involve him and Yubel, too.
The two partners must let go of old illusions before they can look at each other with clear eyes and meet on the same page.

“They were pretty religious, I guess,” Johan confessed into Juudai’s neck one week ago. “My uncle talked about them sometimes, but…I barely remember them. Is that weird?”
“No,” Juudai murmured, his voice thick and drowsy as he stroked Johan’s hair. “That’s not weird.”
Eyes closed tight, Johan nosed into the heartbeat of Juudai’s jugular, searching for peace in the rise and fall of Juudai’s chest. Juudai’s hand kept petting, petting, until it gradually stilled. “The person I’ve grown into,” Johan confessed. “I don’t even know if they would like me.”
