He’s brought out of his brooding by a smell so sweet it nearly triggers a visceral reaction. Simon has to put some significant effort into not puking. He snaps his head towards Johnny so hard his neck cracks, eyes locked on the little unsuspecting box in his Sergeant's hand. The little screen on it lights up in a burst of pixelated color.
"The fuck is that?"Johnny holds up the offending object as if that was explanation enough, "Told ma mam ah'd quit smokin.’”
They share a few bad habits, between the two of them.

Soap is a PhD student, doing his research in Antarctica on the behaviors and hunting habits of leopard seals. During his expedition, he becomes obsessed with a leucistic seal, who he's taken to calling Ghost.
His attempts at tagging Ghost for tracking purposes have all failed, leaving Soap frustrated, but determined to try again. He won't stop until he gets the data he needs for his dissertation.
At the same time, Soap is stuck in an escalating, heated flirting match with a hydroponics employee at another base. It's foolish to form romantic relationships with someone he knows will vanish from his life once their expeditions are over, but there's something fascinating about this man that he can't ignore.
