Escape or death.
The first explosion rocks the complex scant minutes after he leaves the room, Xue Yang's boredom finally winning out over Jin Guangyao's insistence at their attendance. Wei Wuxian has only the breath of a moment to wish fleetingly that he had set the timer a bit longer. The first charge is set as far from the conference and attendees as possible, to be the most confusing. A second goes off in the opposite direction, then a third, further south.
Everything erupts into movement, the guards scrambling at the explosions, the guests starting to emerge from the hall in a clump of confused, controlled panic as the charges continue to detonate. It’s now or never.
Escape or death.
He flees.
Taken at the end of the Sunshot War and forced into servitude to the Jin, Wei Wuxian makes a desperate escape attempt during a Federation conference. Though the universe (and his family) think he's dead - that he has been dead for 13 years - he has no choice but to try to escape. Wei Ying’s confusion is, perhaps, understandable. He and Nie Huaisang are sitting in the middle of the company cafeteria, in the middle of the day, having a conversation Lan Wangji is in no way involved in. Lan Wangji is sitting at the next table over, and should be minding his own business. That rarely happens when Wei Ying is involved, naturally - Lan Wangji is always acutely aware of where his co-worker is, what he’s doing, who he’s smiling at , even if it’s not him.
Not that Wei Ying hasn’t tried to include him. It’s Lan Wangji’s own shortcomings that prevent him from spending more time with Wei Ying. His own problems with communication, his own social awkwardness, the way he himself becomes flustered every time Wei Ying looks at him with that smile, tongue-tied in a worse-than-usual way. Lan Wangji knows what his coworkers think of him. Frozen. Unapproachable. An Ice King. Wei Ying is the only one who has tried, and has kept trying, no matter how awkwardly Lan Wangji responds to his advances.
Lan Wangji isn’t sure what caused him to say it, and he realizes with slowly-dawning horror, that he has just accidentally asked Wei Ying out.

Rajaion snarled, and Soren could see him readying to snap again.
