The top lip curls up, and Buck takes a quick step back, bumping into the wall.
"Tommy?"
Two big steps forward and there are clawed hands, paws, on him, grabbing, lifting, holding.

There was only one person he could trust to answer the phone when he called and it was terrifying to call him now because what if he didn’t answer this time? What if this time, he didn’t have any left to give, he was busy, he wasn’t looking to do Evan Buckley another favor? But who else was there? He needed to talk and yeah, maybe somebody else would answer, but who else would listen, patient and quiet, while Buck tried to harness all of his thoughts into one line?
If Tommy didn’t answer, it wouldn’t be the end of the world. The end of the world already happened. The world was ended. Turn off the lights folks, the party’s over.
Buck called before he could lose his nerve.
