    The Ocean of Sekai. A beautiful place. Soft, tinted waves that lapped at the feet of all mermen, sirens and creatures alike. The soft foam that washed up at the moats of each bricked castle. The beautiful harmonies drifting through the reefs, or the magic that enlightened each murky cave.

    Kingdoms had lived in peace and harmony, for many, many years. Happy mermen, mermaids and sirens swim through the streets with smiles, soft gazes, gifts for all. Exchanging kind words, performing dances, exchanging melodies. It sounded unreal, a gift from the heavens.

    And so it was.

    Many kingdoms lived, ranging from the mighty Shark kingdom, to the meek Coral Fish. And never once did they quarrel. Nothing was ever wrong.

    The kids fall through the portal, and Stanley chases after them. He will not lose them the way he lost his brother.

    Refusing to repeat the mistake of 30 years ago, the family becomes stranded in the multiverse, stuck without a clear path home. Stan's got his brother back, at least, but Stanford isn't the same as Stan remembers. Looks the same, sure, talks the same, absolutely - but he's got a 'professional working relationship' with Bill Cipher that Stan'd really rather not interrogate, and seems to have changed his whole vibe from Virgin Loser, to Space Cowboy Wizard; Which isn't all that different, now that Stan thinks about it.

    Stan and Ford must now find a way to kill Bill, get the family back to Earth, and try to keep the ghosts of their past from tearing them apart. Again. Same boat, different planks, and neither one can deal with their own reflection in the water.

    Well, whatever. They can handle this.

    Wordlessly, Steve fishes a Zippo from his pocket and reaches out to light Hank's cigarette. His eyes are narrowed, watching Hank almost suspiciously as he leans in, pressing the tip of his cigarette to the flame Steve sparks. It's a rush of nicotine when the paper burns, the earthy fog of tobacco filling the car and making the distance between them feel even smaller than it had become over the past minute.

    Steve’s eyes are a deeper brown in the smoke.

    Hank thinks he could stare into them all night.
