In another world, Spinel might have taken longer, played the game for a few seconds more. Spinel might have dramatically teased each finger, loosening him bit by bit. And perhaps in that world, Steven would have had a moment to think. But in this world, strong, hot, chemical-filled wind swept past them suddenly, and Steven slipped through her fingers, off the side of the injector.
