Summary
Wukong doesn’t know what he feels then. All the fire left him in a rush, leaving behind the heavy weight of emptiness. Right. This wasn't Míhóu. Míhóu was dead. Wukong would never be able to argue with Míhóu again. They would never talk again. The promise he had once given him would forever remain broken.
Wukong swallowed. The pressure on his throat felt like someone had wrapped hands around it, fingers pressing down. He imagines, for a moment, that it is Míhóu's ghost. The thought shouldn't give him such relief.
[Wukong pushes some buttons, goes through several emotions, and eventually lets himself start to heal.]

"We'll figure it out," Míhǒu says after a few moments of quiet, when the warmth has started to drive Wukong into a half-dozing state. "...Your spaceship won't be ready for a while."
Wukong lets out a sleepy hum, his voice teasing, "You're not sabotaging it again to keep me here longer, right?"
A huff followed by an almost exasperated sounding ticking sound, some strange back-of-the-throat clicking Wukong has only now begun to decipher. "I wouldn't need to sabotage it to keep you here."

"...Oh," MK put two and two together. "...But, like, not every demon in a relationship had one like… that, right?"
"Nahhh, no, 'course not," Monkey King assured them. "Just the married ones."
"I need to talk to Mei."

Maybe it was the whole "growing up stifled and surrounded by walls" thing that made the idea of being hauled off to hell for a while in a sick-ass truck sound like more fun than anything else. And also, she had the soul of a dragon, and easily housed an uncontainable planet-ending fire within that soul, all tucked away in a human body. Maybe her sense of danger had been skewed a bit by all that power. She didn't know.
She had a third theory, anyway. Maybe she just wanted her boyfriend to make a move already. If this would give him the confidence to validate his own relationship, then she'd wait on it.
