Years ago when the turtle siblings needed to go and rescue Leatherhead from Dimension X they ended up finding a portal creator and Mikey banged on it until it started working. This time they're weren't so lucky, and Donnie had to recalibrate the Kraang portal creator to go to the world of Dimension Y, the oh so original name of the world that the Klaang hail from. It took weeks, weeks that had Mikey on edge and training harder than she had in a long time due to anxiety over the fate of her beloved friend. Ever since the sudden attack that took LH from her and the injury she sustained on her neck Mikey hasn't been able to talk, but her brothers could tell her head wasn't in the best place. Understandably so, but worryingly so.
When the portal was finally finished the turtle siblings all donned their special space breathing gear and stepped through at the same time, unlike last time when Mikey ran through merely seconds before and had survived in Dimension X for weeks or months without her brothers.
The world beyond the portal is indeed similar to that of Dimension X, but Dimension Y is a mixture of teal and blue and purple. And practically all the creatures within eyesight were covered in fur. Even the flying worm looking things. The group immediately tested a few things first to see if this world obeys the same gravitational laws and strange functions of it's cousin world, and for the most part things were similar, so the siblings all began looking for the primary structure that the Klaang no doubt had Leatherhead captured in.
As they run and jump and float around Mikey kept looking around frantically, her eyes scanning the horizon and the sky and even down below trying to find hide or tail of her best friend, and it felt like forever and a day before she actually spotted a huge cube shaped structure floating in the sky above them. She grabbed Leo's arm and tugged at it insistently while pointing at the structure, and Leo grinned triumphantly as he pat his sister's head. "Good eye, Mikey! Now, let's go save Leatherhead."
It took the siblings a good five to six hours to actually reach the Klaang structure, but once they managed to board it things went smoothly. A bit too smoothly, honestly. Suspiciously so. It put Raph on edge, and he constantly looked over his and his siblings shoulders just in case. The moment they reached Leatherhead's cell Mikey ran up to the door and peered inside, her baby blue eyes searching desperately for the large gator she knows and loves. Though when she spotted him her eyes widened and she immediately swiped the electronic lock pick plug from Donnie's hands, having chosen to ignore his protest, and she pushes a lucky random set of buttons that unlocked the cell door.
Inside the cell is indeed Leatherhead, but he's not the same age he was when he was taken from them. He was... younger. He honestly looked to be the same age as when he and the turtles first met, yet judging by the grin on his maw he still has all his memories. "My friends, you have come for me yet again. What would I do without you?"
Mikey burst in to silent tears and launched herself at Leatherhead who embraced her tightly. But she didn't give him a chance to speak just yet as lost in her enthusiasm she pressed her lips to LH's maw to kiss him. And though he was initially caught off guard Leatherhead returned the kiss as tenderly as possible while holding Mikey close. When the two of them part from the soft lip lock Leatherhead chuckled softly and tucked Mikey under his chin. "Oh, my dearest Michelangelo. I have missed you so."
Leo, Raph, and Donnie all exchanged glances, grinning like mad men upon seeing their sister finally share an intimately loving moment with the mutant that has captured her heart. But when they heard footsteps approaching the hallway they're in Leo Straightened up and motioned for Mikey and LH to follow, and the five of them began making their way out of the facility and back to the spot the portal is waiting to be activated once more to take them home to the streets of New York. Thankfully, as it turned out, the Klaang just had really bad security. They, unlike the Kraang, aren't usually breeched and they became lax on their security measures. Thus the turtles and LH didn't have to fight their way out of the cubical structure, though the trip back to the portal still took just as long to get there as it did to find the structure in the first place.
Once they make it back Raph is already complaining about how he wants to sit down and play some fighter games against Leo, Donnie is scrolling through pizza options from the menu of their favorite pizza place, and Mikey? Mikey is still curled up in Leatherhead's arms. He had carried her the whole way back and absolutely refuses to let go of her. When things calm down and they have a moment alone they'll have to discuss the things LH went through for therapy reasons, but they'll also have to actually sit down and talk about the shift in their relationship. But for the moment they were simply happy to be in each other's arms and on their way home.
