Chapter Text

Moving into the dorms felt incredibly off putting. He had done his best to avoid going to school under the watchful demonic eyes of Samael, but life just didn't turn out that way. He would blame Angel for that. There was nothing that would ever convince him that all of this couldn't have been avoided if he hadn't been caught by that self-righteous long haired religious bastard.

But being back in the room with his younger brother was an odd comfort. The feeling of someone who would do anything to protect you, even more so than most people could imagine, even if the other had no idea, was a comfort he easily welcomed back into his embrace. Even if he was the one really protecting his brother and not the other way around like Yukio had assumed.

"So... Rin," Yukio interrupted Rin's move in. Rin didn't pause as he moved his clothing into the drawers as well as the new uniform that had been "given" to him by the principal.

"Hm? What's up Yukio?"

"How- How long... Are you ready for classes?"

Rin groaned.

"I haven't been in class in a while. And I'm sure the classes here are harder than where I was," Rin bemoaned, thinking of the study sessions he would certainly have with Metatron to keep up with the others.

"I'd be more than happy to help you out with studying."

That should have been comforting, but it sounded like a double pronged threat. Yukio on one side, Metatron on the other. How was that a nightmare he had never even fathomed? The two extremes of teaching that should never team up, would be tag teaming him.

"Um... Yukio. I- I think I can handle catching up-"

"What kind of brother would I be if I didn't help you?"

That reassurance and smile were by far one of the most threatening visuals he had ever had the pleasure of being seared into his brain.

"Thanks," he responded weakly.

Maybe there would be mercy, and he would be able to catch up quickly?

He hoped to God that were true.

He went back to putting his clothes away, now haunted by the potential nightmare of his tutoring session.

It could have been minutes; it could have been seconds later that a knock released him from his terror driven thoughts. He didn't answer the door. Anyone who could be on the other side of the door and needing to knock was either here for Yukio or just a headache he would rather not deal with at the moment. He heard his brother go to the door, opening it with little preamble.

"Sorry to bother you," a familiar voice spoke, not sounding the least bit sorry.

"Shura. What are you doing here?" Yukio questioned. His voice sounded so incredibly annoyed with her appearance.

"I'm here to talk to your brother," Shura said with confidence oozing from her. That was not what either brother was expecting. Yukio stood more in the doorway, acting as a living barrier to keep Shura away from Rin.

"Anything you say to him, you can say to me," Yukio remained steady. Acting as though he was an older brother protecting a younger sibling. Rin looked over to the door, seeing Shura's cocky smile he knew all too well, along with the feathered wings of her guardian angel, Raphael.

"Oh really? You agree with that Rin?" she asked.

"Ah, Yukio. It's okay. Really."

Yukio looked back at Rin, his gaze firm, trying to bury any shroud of worry or hurt he felt over Rin not telling Shura to just speak whatever she needed to say. That Rin was still somehow lingering on the need to keep things from him. Like he had over his sight of demons when Yukio and their dad could be helping him. Never mind Yukio and the entire church keeping the truth from him.

"It's nothing too serious right?" Rin decided to throw a bone. To whom, he wasn't sure.

"Just dealing with reuniting you with your belongings."

"We have Rin's belongings," she stated, "And I was told to coordinate him getting them delivered."

Rin and Yukio both looked confused.

"We... have all of Rin's belongings."

Shura's grin grew more devilish. More devious as she crossed her arms.

"You didn't think the Vatican had him wear the same outfit every single day and go nude when they were washed, now do you?"

Yukio's face grew hot as Rin groaned.

"We don't need those!" Yukio declared, his voice going shrill. Embarrassment danced between the two as the aforementioned clothes were mentioned.

"We could always donate them. I don't think I really need anything still over there," Rin did his best to keep calm.

"You sure? We can't exactly donate your underpants-"

"Throw them out!"

"What a waste of perfectly good underpants."

"I'll look at them! Just- Yukio! Don't follow for this!" Rin barged to the door to follow Shura to deal with the whole clothing situation that had of course been thrust in their direction. The fewer people involved the better.

She hooked her arm around his shoulder and gave a small wave back towards Yukio.

"Don't worry, I'll bring him back in one piece!" she called over her shoulder towards Yukio.

"You would find a way for clothes to kill me," Rin muttered low enough that hopefully Yukio wouldn't hear him.

"Shut it. The clothes are dealt with."

It was a ruse. She had come up with a ruse to lure him out with bait Yukio wouldn't even attempt to take.

"Did you really have to pick something so embarrassing?" Rin hissed. Shura snorted.

"You didn't come out, and four eyes sure wasn't going to let you out of his sight unless he "knew" what you'd be up to."

"This hardly sounds reassuring."

"Just keep quiet until we get somewhere a little less public."

Rin's eyes darted to her, then straight ahead. The familiar sight of angel wings gave him an idea of what the discussion may be about. Just an idea. Clearly something angelic, but otherwise he was in the dark. Metatron would normally just tell him what was so important, or his brother if Yukio was nearby.

The two transversed the halls, twisting and turning, seldom taking a direct route. They weren't being followed, so was she trying to avoid someone? Was Angel somehow here and about to cause more drama between his family? He hoped not. He had just recovered physically, and his father and brother were still recovering from a world shifting blow with his revelation of being able to see demons. (Heaven forbid the discovery of angels and Rin's ability to see them- Rin couldn't even fathom how bad that would be.)

The two ended up twisting and turning, ending up in the kitchen.

"Um... You want me to cook you something?"

"Maybe later. You certainly cooked better than most of the people at the Vatican."

"Then being in the kitchen?"

"No one comes in here besides the Ukobach."

"Ah. Right. Then why are we here?"

"Just wanted to give you a warning. The Vatican won't just be twiddling their thumbs waiting for you to come back."

"You couldn't say that in front of Yukio?"

"Do you really want me to? He probably already has a hunch."

Well, Yukio was always a worrier so he could see it.

"I gotta bake something. Any requests?"

"You stress bake?"

"I do now. Requests?"

"Melon Pan would be tasty."

"Okay. Hey, uh... Ukobach-san? You want to join me in making some Melon Pan?"

He wasn't sure if that was cool or not, but since the Ukobach showed up, he figured it would be fine.

Notes:

A small chapter because you guys deserve something.

Notes:

Metatron, Archangel and protector of children. Especially those with high spiritual energy. He is an angel of truth, unity, education and ownership of ones own powers. He is one of two noted angels to have initially been human. The other, his twin brother Sandalphon.

A little bit of a spin on the whole, Angels in Blue Exorcist and interacting with Rin or Yukio. Or maybe not as there aren't a ton of stories like this. But this could still be fun. Rin having Metatron watching over him.
