Vicky dangled her feet just above the floor of the bus, nearly short circuiting from excitement. She’s going to camp spooky with her best friend Oz! She looked over to Oz sitting next to her, head leaning against the window and eyes closed, probably listening to a POV playlist on YouTube through their AirPods. Based on the cute little phobia with heart eyes on their shoulder, it was probably a romantic playlist.
Romance! Something that both Vicky and Oz tried their very best at during Monster Prom, but they both utterly failed at it. Their other best friends Brian and Amira were lucky. Amira got to go to prom with a badass Gorgon Lady and Brian got to go with THE Prom King! Liam de Lioncourt! Don’t ask how he became prom king, Vicky will never know nor understand what kind of hijinks made that miracle happen. But it happened! And both Amira and Brian are ditching summer camp to spend time with their new partners.
Which is FINE! It’s totally fine! Vicky still has her best friend Oz to have fun with! And talk about cute monsters with. Speaking of cute monsters… Vicky turned her head around, getting a peek at everyone on the bus. That gargoyle’s kind of cute, but the Nirvana bag they’re carrying is a definite no in Vicky’s book. The mummy next to them is pretty cool, but they aren’t Vicky’s type. There’s another Frankenstein girl sitting next to them, but Vicky isn’t really digging her fashion sense at all.
Scanning to the back of the bus, the coolest six monsters caught her eye. And two of them she recognized! There’s Damien, the hot demon boy who totally rejected her at prom. It’s okay! Vicky doesn’t hold grudges! And there’s Calculester! He’s cute, but also really innocent, which isn’t Vicky’s vibe at all. Hey, is that Joy from the coven? What’s she doing here? And that’s the Slayer! And Dahlia! The sixth person was a mystery, but they were hot as hell. Vicky was sparking with excitement as she turned her head back around, nudging Oz on the shoulder gently to wake them up.
“Oz… Oz! Check it out! Look behind us!” She pestered.
Groggily, Oz woke up with a few mutterings of “hah?” And “what’s going on?” Before they finally turned around, looking at the six hotties sitting in the back of the bus. They turned back around, their shoulders now adorning three different phobias with different heart eyes and smiley expressions. How cute! Oz was blushing yellow and they had their hands on their face, likely because they’re insecure about how they look when they’re blushing. Vicky always thought it was cute.
“Wow…”
“So, we’re totally going to do the thing, right?”
Vicky wriggled her eyes rows at them. Oz, contemplated to themself for a moment before smiling back at Vicky, showing off their horrifying teeth. Yep! They’re doing the thing again! Both Vicky and Oz turned around subtly, trying not to be obvious when staring at the six coolest people on that bus. They’re scouting, picking out which monster that they want to try and woo and romance during this camping trip! What? Did you not know that’s what Vicky meant by ‘the thing’? Of course that’s what she meant by ‘the thing’! Romancing classmates, in this case campmates, is always ‘the thing’!
“Hey, Vicky?” Oz tapped her shoulder to make sure they had her attention. “I’m going to guess that Damien’s off limits?”
“I mean, if you want him go for it. He’s just a hard-to-please asshole who tricked me by saying I wasn’t an awful fuckdoor only to reject me and call me an awful fuckdoor when asking him to prom.” Vicky slumped back into her chair, crossing her arms and pouting.
“I’m just going to bro-code and say no Damien, then.”
Gosh, Oz is such a good friend. Vicky smiled to herself while going through her options in her head. She’s tired of men, so she won’t go after Calculester. Isn’t that such a bisexual mood? Being attracted to men but also being tired of men at the same time? That’s soooooo Vicky right now. Vicky doesn’t know who that skeleton person is, but Vicky decided it’d be easier to go after someone she was at least familiar with, so she knocked them out too. Dahlia is too similar to Damien so she’s out. That left Joy and Aaravi. Both of them were super annoying in school, but this is a summer fling! It’s totally different!
Vicky fantasized in her head about her two badass girlboss options. Joy is a thicc goth gf. She always looks fabulous and she’s really experienced when it comes to love, so she could probably get Vicky going in all the right ways. But at the same time, Aaravi is an adorable Tsundere who is strong, independent, and very chaotic. Vicky foes live for chaos, and she hates Damien so that’s a super bonus! Yeah, Vicky made her choice. Her summer crush is definitely going to be Aaravi!
Vicky, with a huge grin, focused back to the real world and looked at Oz, who seemed to be melting in their seat. Oooh! So they discovered who they want to be their summer crush as well! Knowing Oz, they’re going to have romantic daydreams set to their favorite songs in their playlists about this monster for the rest of the bus ride, so Vicky’s going to have to get her tea now or never get it at all!
“Soooooooo, Ozzy, which cutie are you claiming?”
“Oh, uh, I wouldn’t say I’m claiming anybody! That’d be weird, especially if we chose the same monster”
“Oz, you only like men. I chose a woman. I know for a fact we didn’t choose the same monster.”
Oz visibly sighed with relief. That’s the great thing about being attracted to one and done, isn’t it? You stay in your lane and don’t have to worry about stealing someone else’s boo. That’s an advantage Oz and Amira have over Vicky and Brian. Well, since Amira and Brian aren’t here, they don’t really matter this time now do they?
“Well, I think Calculester is, well, pretty cute…” Oz did the little thing where they press their index fingers together shyly while looking away from Vicky, embarrassed as all hell.
“Awwww! I think that would totally work out for you! Cal is a cutie, and a sweetheart. He’d be so perfect for you!” Vicky nudged Oz as they spoke, teasing them further.
“Well what about you! You said you liked one of the girls!” Oz quietly blurted out, trying their hardest to change the subject.
“Oh me? Wellllllllll, why don’t you guess!”
“You probably didn’t want Dahlia because she’s too similar to Damien, and you had a huge fight with the Coven during school last year, so I’m going to have to guess…. Aaravi?” Oz is so cute when they’re being smart!
Vicky nodded enthusiastically. Oz gave a thumbs up to Vicky, approving her choice before adjusting the AirPods in their ears and leaning against the bus windows again. Of course Oz wasn’t going to make a move yet. They’re very quiet. They like to plan things out before acting and they’re very shy. But Vicky isn’t. Vicky’s going to get Aaravi’s attention, and she’s gonna do it in the most Vicky way possible.
Vicky rummages through her camping backpack for her sketchbook, something she always, always, ALWAYS has on her for shopping purposes, and she tears out a page. Using one of her glitter pens, she scribbles down a pickup line. ‘ Did you sit in sugar? Because you have a sweet ass. XOXOXO ~Vicky” sure, it’s corny, but it’s a conversation starter! Vicky carefully folds a paper airplane and then peeks over the head of her bus chair. She aims towards Dahlia, the seat over, knowing that her airplane will veer left, and she lets it loose! Just as she threw it, she hid back in her seat, giggling to herself. It’s gonna be great!
Vicky anxiously waited for any reaction to come. She didn’t watch the plane hit Aaravi, nor did she see Aaravi open the paper airplane, so she can only assume. And Vicky being the main-character-energy silly goofy little bitch she was, she definitely assumed her airplane hit the exact right person exactly how she imagined it would.
Vicky was then hit by something. A crumpled paper ball landed in her lap. She eagerly tore the paper open, seeing words written in dark red marker she hoped that it was from Aaravi and not Dahlia, because both of them totally would write in a dark red marker. But considering she didn’t get any threats or just a simple ‘hahaha’ she knew it wasn’t Dahlia! ‘Are you a Vampire? Because I’m gonna slay your ass when we arrive at camp! ~The Slayer’ Vicky squealed to herself, clutching the note.
Vicky folded the note and tucked it into her sketchbook, extremely happy and only thinking of the sexual implications and not the murderous implications. Vicky glanced over at Oz, who seemed to have not noticed her entire charade. But they were looking at their phone instead of just listening to music. Vicky leaned over their shoulder to see what they were reading. They were texting someone? Oz noticed her confusion and clarified for her.
“I’m letting Brian and Amira know we’re about to arrive so they don’t worry about us.” Oz continued texting, adding a few yellow heart emojis to the end of their text.
Vicky hummed, accepting their answer before sitting back in her seat correctly. She grabbed her sketchbook from earlier and flipped through the pages. Lots of doodles of her friends together doing shenanigans like always, some doodles of Amira and Vera together, some doodles of Brian and Liam together, and a lot of blacked out or scribbled over doodles of Damien. Yeahhhh the heartbreak didn’t go well. Opening the book to the next completely free page, Vicky began to draw a one point perspective scene of Oz and herself sitting on the bus.
She’d probably only get the sketch done, seeing as the bus was traveling through the front gates of Camp Spooky.
