Chapter Text
Clark watches Bruce nurse their daughter in bed. The sun has barely risen, casting a warm glow over the fog on the water, bathing Bruce and their Daughter in a warm glow. Clark watches as Audrey latches on and sucks until her little face gets red, while her little fingers grab hold of Bruce’s pectoral. He watches as blue-brown heterochromia eyes open to look up at her father before she lets go of Bruce’s pectoral and stretches before continuing her breakfast while Bruce smiles down at her.
The past six months had gone by so fast. After Audrey’s birth, Bruce had bounced back surprisingly fast, surprising even himself. Their lives had become busy after that, pumping milk, changing diapers, and creating a routine for their daughter. With both Alfred and Martha’s help, they had managed to get Audrey to sleep through the night in just eleven days. When she turned a month old, they had decided to announce to the world that they had welcomed a daughter into the world, not saying anything about how she got there.
The press, as expected, had thrown themselves over the news, speculating about affairs and whatnot. Clark hadn’t really bothered to look into it, getting the news from nosey colleagues wanting the next big headline on the whole Wayne-Kent circus. Sighing, Clark shifts his hold on Audrey, grabbing the cup of coffee he had prepared for Bruce, going about their morning routine. It’s late summer and the sun shines brightly through the kitchen windows, the movement from the lake painting beautiful, moving pictures for Audrey to look at.
The lakehouse has become a lot homier than the cold and hard bachelors pad that it had been before, more fitting to their small family. Looking at the time, Clark notices how Alfred is snoring lightly where he’s sitting in his chair in the corner, a forgotten cup of tea on the side table as the morning paper lies in his lap, fast asleep. Audrey wiggles in her little batman onesie as Bruce enters the kitchen, making small grabby hands at her walking breakfast.
“Good morning, my loves,” Bruce greets, bumping foreheads with Clark while looking into his eyes, “Hi,”
It’s cheesy, but it’s entirely Bruce. Clark lifts his head to meet Bruce’s kiss, the gentle kiss making Bruce’s heart skip a beat which in turn makes Clark grin. He loved the effect he had on Bruce, the master of controlling his emotions and whatnot. Clark absolutely loved that Bruce’s body sang to him like this.
“Hi yourself,” Clark mumbles when they break apart.
“And a very good morning to you too, my beautiful angel,” Bruce takes Audrey’s hand and kisses the back, to Audrey’s utter delight.
Audrey’s laughter fills the kitchen, making them both grin as Alfred startles awake in the corner. Bruce grabs the cup of steaming coffee that Clark had prepared for him, taking a big sip out of the hot and potent brew, just like he loves it. It’s ironic how Bruce refuses to drink out of any other cup than his favorite here at home. The blue Superman cup somehow drowns in Bruce’s big hands as he downs the rest of the hot beverage. How Bruce managed not to burn his mouth and throat was beyond him.
“Big day today, huh?” Clark hums as he lets Audrey plop into Bruce’s arms
“I wouldn’t call it a big day,” Bruce mumbles into Audrey’s cheek while pretending to eat her. “It’s a simple meeting,”
Clark just snorts at Bruce’s denial. Today was the first day of restorations on the old Wayne manor. Since welcoming Audrey into the world, Bruce had longed for his childhood home, finally deciding to go through with the restorations and improvements it needed. The Justice League, after meeting Audrey for the first time, had all agreed that moving their headquarters off-world would be the safest option seeing as Bruce and Clark now had a family living nearby the old Wayne manor. Reluctantly, Bruce had agreed.
Staring at how handsome Bruce is in his blue shirt and vest, the tie that Calrk just wants to loosen ever so slightly before unwrapping this exquisite gift before him. Too often, he finds himself thinking about how lucky he had been. He doesn’t know how he got here, how everything just sort of fell into place, but as he looks at the goofy man he loves blowing raspberries on their daughter’s tummy, Clark figures that he doesn’t much care. He’s going to make the most of the rest of their lives.
The following morning, Bruce sleeps in, as dead to the word as their daughter between them. After Audrey’s feeding, Bruce had been out like a light, Audrey following shortly after. Clark didn’t have the heart to disturb any of them, instead, just lay there staring at his little family. Listening to Bruce’s heartbeat has always been his favorite thing, the sound managing to calm and soothe him in mere seconds. Closing his eyes, Clark lets the sound of his little family wash over him as he relaxes. Bruce’s steady, heavy heartbeat, Audrey’s lighter faster one, the quick rabbit swooshing of…
Clark's eyes pop open, his heart beating a thunderous rhythm in his chest. Tuning in on the quick rabbit swooshing again, Clark listened as the small heartbeat hummed away inside of Bruce. Reaching over to stroke his finger over Bruce’s abdomen, Clark smiles through misty eyes. This child would be as welcomed by them as Audrey has been. With their little family growing bigger, Clark lies back down again, scooting closer this time. Wrapping his arms around Bruce’s sleeping frame, Clark kissed their foreheads before closing his own eyes again, a big smile gracing his lips. This would be a happy surprise come morning…
