Summer break hit much sooner than anyone expected. If the students of Nevermore were being honest it was because of the impromptu winter break that lasted well into February, they all preferred to forget the last semester's events and enjoy the shorter stint at school.
“You definitely don’t have to if you don’t want to, but the invite is open,” Enid hummed offhandedly as she packed the rest of her colorful items. She had just offered for Wednesday to join her back in California over summer break, she doubted the darker girl would want to accompany her but the offer was genuine.
“You want me to return to your home with you until next semester?” Wednesday’s voice was as monotone as usual but Enid could pick up the curiosity hidden underneath. She didn’t expect Wednesday to even acknowledge her, nonetheless inquire for more information.
Interesting.
“Well… it doesn’t have to be for the whole break but you’re definitely more than welcome if you’d like,” Wednesday turned around and Enid was surprised at how she had seemingly caught her attention. “It would be fun, to be honest, it would be nice to have you there to keep me sane around my mother,”
Wednesday nodded understanding and she turned to finish packing her bags. “If you’d like I can make you an orphan and then you don’t have to worry about her,”
“You’re not killing my parents, besides I like my dad it’s just my mom…She’s going to be infuriating to deal with now that I’ve wolfed out, and that’s if she just focuses on that and not trying to find me a mate,” If it weren’t for her now enhanced hearing she would have missed the way Wednesday’s heart sped up.
“A…mate?” It was a simple question but Enid felt her cheeks light up in embarrassment.
“Yeah, the Sinclairs are the largest pack on the West Coast and my grandfather is the alfa. In order to allow the pack to grow I’m sure my mother will be trying to set me up with every eligible wolf from San Fran to Boston,” Enid hated the idea, sure she didn’t want to be a lone wolf, but her mother was of questionable judgment and she wanted to be able to pick for herself.
“I assumed wolves were free to pick their own mate. That seems irritatingly restrictive,” Wednesday flipped the locks down on her trunk and faced Enid as if deciding on the spot. “I’ll go with you and pretend to be your paramour if you’d like,”
Enid was speechless, this was not where she thought this conversation would go at all. Did Wednesday really just off to be her girlfriend - fake girlfriend while she was home? Her surprise must have shown on her face because Wednesday looked at her with annoyance and also…what seemed to be a mild embarrassment.
“W-we don’t really get to pick, werewolves only have one mate, like a soulmate that we have to find but…Wednesday Addams, are you asking to be my fake girlfriend over break?” Wednesday rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.
“I’m not going to repeat myself, if you want to get your mother off your back I’m willing to offer my services. I have no interest in returning to New Jersey for the summer and I’ve always wanted to study the intricacies of wolf packs up close,” Enid knew she didn’t have time to think over the idea so she answered without thought.
“I’d appreciate that, and I promise to make it worth your while,” Wednesday nodded once as if they has just made a business deal, what was she getting herself into?
