Chapter Text
Robin doesn't go to parties. She never really has. It's not something she enjoys, with the crowds of drunk teens and the possibility of accidentally outing herself... Yeah she'll pass.
That's what she would have told you two days ago before a few of the girls from band had convinced her to go with them. (She's a sucker for pretty girls, and unfortunately Janice Richmond is a very pretty girl.)
The moment Janice and the other girls had shown up to her house Robin had regretted. She doesn't want to do this but Janice is so excited, fussing over Robin's hair and her clothes and doing her best to make sure she's excited too, and how could she say no?
Robin is a freshman, she's an easy target for people like Tommy Hagan, Carol Perkins and Steve Harrington but when Janice, a senior, had taken her under her wing Robin had avoided the worst of the bullying. Going to this party with Janice and her friends is the least she can do. Besides the likelihood that any of Harrington's little posse even know her name is slim to none. As long as she doesn't get wasted she'll be fine.
Hagan's house is packed like a can of sardines. It's been half and hour and the majority of the attendees are hammered. She watches incredulously as Jason Carver stumbles over himself to bring his girlfriend another drink spilling the spiked punch all down his front. His girlfriend Chrissy giggles and presses a kiss to his cheek affectionately as he frowns at the now empty cup.
Suddenly Janice is pressing a half full solo cup into her hands and sliding an arm around her shoulders leading her into the throng of people. The music is louder here and body's press against each other as people dance. Someone backs into Robin and she stumbles into Janice face pressed against her shoulder. She freezes mind going blank with panic. Janice laughs steadying her easily, completely oblivious to Robin's panic.
She sips her drink grimacing at the taste of alcohol and punch, but she keeps drinking hoping it'll help her relax a little. She dances with Janice and her friend Alice for what feels like an eternity slowly getting more and more drunk until she's stumbling out side and straight into Eddie Munson.
"S'rry," she slurs " I th'nk 'm dr'nk" Her limbs feel heavy and everything is wobbly. Eddie's brow furrows. Like a caterpillar she thinks distantly, she likes caterpillars. She doesn't realize she'd reaches out to touch them until her hand touches Eddie's face and she giggles patting his forehead a few times.
" Hey, kid you alright?" Eddie's voice sounds really far away and he tilts his head like he's considering her. Robin opens her mouth and then stares at his hair.
"Like yo'r ha'r." She mumbles patting his head. Eddie grins at her.
" Yeah? I think your hair's cool too. Let's say we get you some water and find your friends okay?" She nods distractedly still staring at his hair. She wonders if Janice's hair is as soft as Eddie's. She blinks and she's inside again clinging to Eddie's hand and leaning on Janice's shoulder babbling in French, much to the older teens amusement. She blinks again and Janice gets up to dance again and Eddie is talking about some club he runs and handing her a cup of water.and telling her to drink it slowly.
Everything is going good until she watches Steve Harrington stumble through the crowd making his way towards their couch calling for someone inaudibly, Tommy Hagan hot on his heels. Beside her Eddie tenses but he doesn't make any moves to leave. Suddenly Harrington is in front of her wrapping her into a tight hug, face pressed into her shoulder. She can feel tears soaking through her shirt and she stares at Eddie bewildered looking for some kind of explanation that could make this male sense.
Harrington is sobbing, telling her he's so sorry and that he didn't mean to leave. Robin has no fucking clue what is going on. Maybe she drank more than she thought and this is a fever dream. By the time he calms down Hagan has left after giving her and Eddie a warning glare. He leans back sniffing and then he sees Eddie and he's bawling again and grabbing hold of Eddie scooping him into his lap like he's scared something will happen to him.
Eddie looks frozen in shock and Steve is begging Eddie to be 'careful this time's, Robin has no idea what that's supposed to mean. he looks up making grabby hands at Robin and she sits hesitantly beside him. Hagan comes back and sits on Steve's other side allowing Steve to pull him into his impromptu cuddle pile. He sniffles tucking himself (and Eddie and Robin as a result) into Tommy's arms.
" M'ss'd you T'mmy." He mumbles eyes drooping tiredly. He's running his fingers through Eddie's hair with one hand and holding Robin close with the other. Eddie looks like he'd been told that aliens were real and taking over all the seven elevens because they love slurpees. To Robin's horror the older boy's eyes are wet again.
Luckily for her Harrington doesn't start crying again but he does fall asleep. Eddie is the first to speak, turning to look up at Hagan from his spot in Harrington's lap.
"Dude, what the fuck is going on with Harrington?" The look Tommy shoots him is absolutely poisonous.
" Listen up, freak." He snarls " Steve had too much to drink and got confused. Nothing fucking happened. If I hear even a whisper about this I'll beat both of your faces in, got it?" His hold on Harrington had tightened and Robin realizes just how worried Hagan is. Understandably. Harrington had a certifiable breakdown and was clinging to two guys and a band geek. If word got out the upperclassmen would never let it go.
" We won't say anything." Robin whispers shooting Eddie a look. The older boy frowns but nods along.
When Robin wakes up in the morning her head is pounding and she's curled up half in Steve Harrington's lap next to Eddie Munson who is fully in Harrington's lap who is fast asleep on Tommy Hagan's chest.
What the actual fuck?
She pokes Eddie in the side nearly jumping out of her skin when he shifts and blearily opens one eye.
" Uh, hi?" Robin shushes him and points at the sleeping jocks. Eddie's eyes go wide as dinner plates.
"What the fuck?" He hisses. Great he doesn't know what's going on either. The last thing she wants to do is wait for them to wake up but moving might wake up Steve which would wake up Tommy.
She frowns trying to remember what had happened that night. The best she's got are bits and pieces but she distinctly remembers Harrington crying. A lot. Which like, not to judge or anything, but why her? Why Eddie? As far as she knew he and Eddie had barely ever interacted she certainly doesn't remember talking to King Steve.
" I'm going back to sleep." Eddie says finally and Robin nods. What else would they do? She'd actually slept surprisingly well all things considered. She follows Eddie's lead and closes her eyes. Maybe she'd wake up and this would all have been a dream.
