Chapter Text

The suit shook as Jungsu did his best to raise himself into the air. It wasn’t remotely a clean movement, but it was better than he had expected. Truthfully, Jungsu just wanted to be able to prove to his father what he could do. That he deserved to be out there in the field as much as anyone else.

The red distress light had been flickering multiple times in the last few minutes, alerting Jungsu of a new message. His father had tried to contact the jet, but the new hero had ignored every single one. He knew his father would probably be in the process of suiting up right now, ready to fly out to the jet’s coordinates, so he needed to figure out the controls on this thing fast.

Jungsu took another breath, trying again to adjust his position mid-air. He had parked the jet on a building a few blocks down from the droid so he knew he had a minute or two to practice. The droid’s location was easy to pinpoint, Hyeongjun’s apartment building standing not too far down from where Jungsu was.

On solid ground, the droid’s steps were much more violent than Jungsu had realised. The whole world shook with every footfall, which definitely didn’t help when learning how to manoeuvre through the air in an entirely new way.

Jungsu was so busy focusing on the suit that he didn’t see Spider-Man until the hero dropped down right in front of him. Jungsu blinked up, letting out a yelp at his best friend’s sudden appearance. One of his boosters stuttered and he landed heavily on the roof. The ground shook, bringing him down to his knees.

Hyeongjun didn’t laugh like he might have in any other situation. Instead, he just stepped forward to help Rescue up. “Where’s Jooyeon?” he asked, shouting over the sound of the rumble.

“He- Wait a second,” Jungsu pressed a button, making the Rescue suit fold back in on itself. Now in his street clothes, he produced a small earpiece from one of his pockets and pushed it into Spider-Man’s hand. “We can hear each other better with it in,” he explained, reactivating the suit.

Hyeongjun pulled his mask up enough to press the piece into his ear. “Testing,” he said as he adjusted his mask again. “Can you hear me?”

Another voice crackled through in reply, loud like the owner was standing right next to them. “Hyeongjun?” The hero’s eyebrows shot up as he recognised Gunil’s voice.

Despite the suit covering his whole body, it was clear Jungsu was feeling uncomfortable. He was shifted from foot to foot, his head tilted away. “Uh, yeah,” he explained, his voice much clearer thanks to the earpiece. “He was asking for the truth and so I told him everything. Please don’t be mad, I know you wanted to keep your life separate - Hyeongjun and Spider-Man…”

Hyeongjun wasn’t sure how he would have reacted to this all only a week ago, but right then, standing on that rooftop, he found himself smiling. “Okay, it was probably time we told you anyways, hyung.”

Jungsu seemed to lag for a second. “You aren’t mad?”

“Nah. I actually just told Uncle Brian as well. But we do have a bigger problem to deal with right now, so maybe we could come back to this when we aren’t up against a giant robot of death.” Hyeongjun’s eyes flickered over to the droid. It had paused now, its head turned to lock onto his location. Up close it was a lot more terrifying than the others. Its eyes burned a piercing green, peering over the edge of the building.

The droid shifted, taking another step forward. It was coming right for them.

Hyeongjun hesitated, blinking over at Jungsu for a second. “Seriously though, where is Joo?”

Rescue was hovering in the air again, adjusting his position as he adapted to the sensation. He glanced over at the question, looking like he was about to reply before Jooyeon’s own voice came through the comms. “The holding facility… Shit- I’m with the Asiansoul.”

He sounded like he was struggling, his words lined with grunts and huffs. As they listened, the distinct bang of a gun going off echoing through the line. The pair were clearly fighting, wrestling desperately for the upper hand.

The droid was close now, the echo of its footfalls making Hyeongjun’s teeth chatter. He took a few quick breaths. “You ready Rescue?”

The new hero let out a choked laugh, only slightly shaking where he hung in the air, boosters blue against the city backdrop. “As ready as I’ll ever be, Spider-Man. Let’s go kick this bucket of bolt’s ass!”
