Chapter Text
Sharon POV :
Sharon Davis is a 65 years old woman, for most of her life now, she has been a history teacher at Westview High School. That is why, on that first morning of the school years, she was up and about. Now, Sharon would not do anyone the offence of pretending she was happy to be up at 6 in the morning but objectively, she was probably happier than most.
Firstly, she was a pretty lonely woman outside of her job and she would not deny that seeing people would be good for her. You could go so far gardening and watching old sitcoms but it was bound to turn annoying. And secondly, she really loved her job. She was probably one of the most devoted teachers of the high school and one of the more attentive to her students. It was not always the case, it was even a pretty recent development if she was being totally honest. But she had promised herself to be more attentive since what she had personally deemed her worst mistake.
She had a student three years ago, a nice, polite adorable student that never got her name right. Her name was Agatha Harkness, she was entering college this year. That girl, she had deemed at the time, was peculiar. Good at school but absolutely shit, forgive the language, at making any kind of social connections. When Sharon began suspecting that maybe, only maybe, the truth was darker, the year had ended and little miss Harkness was never in her class again. For the two next years she had kept tabs on the girl by listening to what she called the Harkness’ lineage.
First it had been Jennifer Kale, a very good but kind of superficial student, Harkness’ pupil. The two girls gave the impression of not seeing eye to eye but Sharon kept hearing the little fondness in Miss Kale's voice each time she asked for news of her old favorite student. Then Alice Wu-Gulliver was added to the mix. She was Kale's pupil, a nice overprotective and quite secretive girl that kept admiring both eldest girls to an almost worrying point.
Sharon kept thinking about that little group of girls. They were all so different and so interdependent that she was a little worried about what would happen with Miss Harkness out of the school. Objectively the girl was not often with the two others but still. All those kids had problems, it was obvious and they were more stable together. She would have to keep her eyes on them. Especially since there would be a new addition soon and Sharon was ready to bet all her savings it would be another case. She did not know why but they seemed to gravitate around those girls. Sharon sighed, if only she knew how to help… The most she could do was let them know her door was always open.
She checked the clock, huffed, took her classes paper and began walking toward the high school. A new year was beginning and she felt that it would be interesting and most certainly tiring.
Agatha POV :
Agatha Harkness is anxious. That is a universal truth. She always was anxious, and she probably would always be. Right now she was anxious for what she felt was a pretty good reason. Tomorrow… She checked the old styled clock of her bedroom, 5 in the morning… Today then… Today was her first day of college.
She was going to study Political Science and be the best at it. Or she hoped she would, she hated thinking about what would happen if she was not. She was a Harkness, she had to be perfect.
She began picking on the skin around her nail, a nervous habit she could not get rid off and tried to project herself in her new life as a college student. It would be great, she was sure of it. Yes, she would not have friends, but Agatha never really had friends.
She had her high school family but they were less friends and more, well family. She began pacing in her room, what would happen if she was not the best ? Her mom would be so pissed. And who was she if she was not head of her class ? It was basically her whole personality.
Well it was not, Agatha was not that shallow… But it was the entire personality she showed to others. God it would be awful… And she was spiraling again.
Maybe she should go and cook breakfast ? That always helped her relax. She would have to be especially discrete. She did not want to wake her mom up before it was needed. With a little chance she would even be gone for college before the woman woke up. Don’t get her wrong, Agatha loved her mother, truly, but sometimes the woman was harsh.
She got down to the kitchen in her pajamas and began taking what she needed to make pancakes out of the fridge. Maybe she should have dressed up first. What if she ended up late because she was not dressed yet. Agatha looked at a clock. 6 AM, she would not be late, her introduction day began at 9, she had time. She began mixing the ingredients and her mind went blank. That was why Agatha loved cooking, it was calming.
At 7 AM she had finished her breakfast and the one for her mother was dressed in the kitchen. She got back into her room and put on her usual clothes. A white button up blouse, a mom jean and a purple sleeveless jumper. She also hid under her blouse the little star necklace Jen had offered her for her birthday a year ago. She would never show it, but she actually quite liked the thing.
At 8 AM, she was locking the door of the house. She had gotten out a little early because her mother was supposed to wake up around 8:30. No she was not trying to stay away from her mom, she just was not sure she wanted to deal with Evanora Harkness this morning. She checked three times that she had everything she needed and then began to walk toward college.
At a crosswalk, she nearly got run over by some black old camaro. In it were two girls around her age. The driver was a brunette, the other had black hair. The passenger screamed an excuse by the window. Agatha sighed, her day was beginning wonderfully was it not…
Rio POV:
Rio Vidal is not a morning person. It is why, when her alarm clock rang at 7 o’clock, she kicked it and went back to sleep. Not for long though. Some 10 minutes later, her roommate entered her room and tucked her blanket away.
“ Hela !” She groaned
“ Time to wake up Ri’, first day of college today !”
Rio blinked. The words of Hela taking time to register in her foggy brain. First day of college… What was Hela speaking ab… oh… oh shit ! She jumped out of bed swearing.
“ Mierda ! I thought it was tomorrow !”
Hela, as the good friend she was, feel the irony there, bursted into laughter. Rio looked at her darkly and pushed her out of the room with a very serious “I hate you “. That made Hela laugh harder.
Rio first put back on her little dagger pendant and all of her rings before focusing on choosing her top. After a few minutes she settled with a black top with dark green ivy printed on and dark shorts. It was late August, the weather was still hot. She then went to the kitchen where she found a mug of coffee and a cigarette close to the windowsill. Was she cursing Hela earlier ? She takes it back that girl was a life saver. She opened the window, lit up her cigarette and began sipping on her coffee. When she was half through her cup, Hela entered the kitchen. She leaned against the counter.
"We go in 10 minutes. I fed Victoria"
Victoria was Rio’s spider. She had her for a few months now and she loved her. Hela was reticent at the beginning but now they were coparenting. Rio crushed her cigarette in the sink, closed the windowsill and looked at Hela
"Ready to go when you are."
"Yeah. Is the city girl ready for her first day in a country college?"
They closed there flat, got in their black camaro
"Can't be that different from New York"
Hela chuckled.
"You have no idea..."
And after those wise words, Hela started the car, heading to Westview Community College. They nearly ran over a girl around their age with a purple jumper because of Hela's abysmal driving skill and Rio felt the need to scream an excuse by the window. What a way to begin the year.
