Chapter Text

“Why do we always end up getting chased?” Rose yelled out, sprinting in an attempt to keep up with the Doctor.

Rose knew that he life with her now fiancé would never be calm, but one simple, relaxing weekend was all that she had wanted with him. Now, they were being chased by a horde of angry Daleks that they’d managed to run into.

“How was I supposed to know that they were running the resort as a front?” He asked back, slowing down a bit to stay in pace with Rose.

Shaking her head, Rose focused solely on getting back to the TARDIS and coming up with a plan for how to beat the Daleks and free the resort goers that they’d been keeping to experiment on and turn into their own personal army.

“There!” The Doctor shouted, pointing ahead of them. “There she is!” He exclaimed pointing at the blue police box sitting in front of them.

Letting out a whoop of laughter, the Doctor paced himself slightly faster than Rose and opened the door to the TARDIS for her, letting her in first and closing the door behind himself.

"Well, that was fun," he commented to himself, adjusting his bow tie. "What did you think, Rose?" The Doctor asked, a glint of mischievous in his eyes.

"Fun?" Rose asked, a little upset. "I wanted a nice relaxing weekend with you. Don't get me wrong, I love our adventures, but I just wanted to spend a nice trip with my fiancé," she admitted, her shoulders falling and head shaking. "Don't worry about it though, we have to stop the Daleks first. Those people, their lives, are far more important than any vacation."

Keeping the idea of another, Dalek free vacation, in the back of his mind for later, the Doctor decided to focus on the matter at hand - stopping the Daleks and saving the people from the resort.

"All right then," he agreed. "How do we want to stop the Daleks?"

~~~
Stepping out of the TARDIS, the Doctor and Rose crept quietly through the woods, not making a single sound out of fear of alerting the Daleks to their presence.
Following closely behind the Doctor, Rose stepped over fallen leaves and branches, avoiding all sound and putting all of her trust in the man in front of her.
The two quickly made their way to the edge of the resort, slipping through one of the arch ways and towards where the Daleks command center was for the resort. peeking through the cracked door, the Doctor spotted no Daleks, but went first before waving Rose in behind him.
In the center of the room was a large metal console, which confused Rose and left her wondering how they operated it (they had a whisk and plunger for hands? How did they do anything at all?), but she pushed those thoughts away and approached it with the Doctor. Staring down the buttons, levers, and other parts of the panel, her eyes quickly scanned it, hoping to find a button that would release the hostages from down below.
Instead, all that she found was a computer monitor showing a live video feed of the people behind bars with a small button just out of frame, but she could make out the curved edge of it from the grainy video.
"Doctor," Rose whispered, pointing at it on the screen. "Look. Do you think that might release them?" She asked as he looked over the button too.
"Possibly," he responded quietly. "It's worth a look since nothing here will. And I could use my sonic if all else fails," he explained, pointing at the metal bars of the cells the people were being kept in. "Not wood."
Giving him a sharp nod, the duo memorized the digitally projected map before leaving the room to go and find the hostages.
Racing through the halls, the Doctor led with Rose right on his heels. Worst case scenario, he wanted to be the one to meet the danger first, not her.
Taking the sitars down to the level below them, they continued down through the halls, creeping silently until they reached the cages that the Daleks had put the people in.
"Oh my god," Rose breathed out seeing the state of the people.
Cramped like cattle, there was little to no room for movement, not even enough for them to turn around and attempt to pick the lock (not that it would have been possible anyway).
"Let's get these people out of here," the Doctor stated, anger boiling just below the surface. The Oncoming Storm was here and he was not happy.
Unlocking each and every cell, not willing to risk the button alerting the Daleks, Rose helped the people out from behind the bars and scanned for injuries, using what she could find and her own clothing to help.
"Alright everyone," the Doctor spoke softly, not wanting to get caught. "Just head straight down that hall," he explained, pointing down a straight hallway to a door. "Exit there and you'll find the transports. They'll take you back to where you came from, you'll be safe."
Nods came like a wave through the room with whispers of 'thanks you' as everybody passed. Side-by-side, the Doctor and Rose watched as everyone passed until the door shut on the last person.
"Now, let's go buy them some time," the Doctor stated as Rose nodded in agreement, both running off to find a large area.
Running back to the main atrium of the resort, the Doctor began taking out the cameras while Rose yelled, screamed, threw chairs and side tables, anything to draw the Daleks' attention away from the people leaving.
"Identify yourselves," a robotic voice demanded, rolling into the room and scanning the Doctor and Rose. "Hello, Doctor, human female" it greeted. "Explain! Explain!"
"You want an explanation?" The Doctor began, approaching the machine. "Okay then. You see here, I was on a nice vacation with my lovely fiancée here, but of course it had to be the one Dalek ran resort on this side of the galaxy. So, of course," he continued rambling. "We're not just going to let you continue doing what you're doing, which means that our time together is now being spent putting a stop to whatever plans you are making; not that I mind of course. Do you mind, honey?" He asked, turning back to Rose.
"A little bit," she responded, all too use to his antics.
"Ah, okay. So, she minds a bit, I don't love when my love is upset with me, so we better finish this up," the Doctor babbled. "Next thing I know, she'll be taking over the TARDIS and leaving me somewhere as punishment," he joked, trying to buy some time.
"Silence, Doctor!" The Dalek commanded. "You are trying to buy time. Explain! Explain!"
"Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah," the Doctor mocked, throwing a wink at Rose. "Always with the 'explain, explain'. Why don't you ever just figure out stuff for yourself?"
At that comment, the Dalek began to scan the entire building, including the cells.
"You have released our prisoners," the Dalek confirmed. "You must be exterminated."
Without giving him so much as a second, the Dalek fired a laser directly at the Doctor.
"Doctor!" Rose yelled, watching the beam hit his right shoulder as he fell to the ground.
"AGH!" he screamed out in pain.
Motionless for a moment, Rose felt her anger rising. They'd hurt her love. They had injured her Doctor.
Feeling power surge through her veins, one that she'd never felt before.
"Get away from him," she calmly commanded, stepping towards the Dalek in front of her.
"Identify yourself!" It yelled out. "Readings: unknown. Explain! Explain!"
"You want me to identify myself?" A voice that sounded so unlike Rose responded. "I am the Bad Wolf."
From the ground, the Doctor's eyes widened as he heard that name. He thought that Bad Wolf was gone for good, that Rose was safe from it. But when he saw her glowing golden eyes, brimming with time energy, he realized how mistaken he was.
Raising a hand, Bad Wolf atomized the Dalek in front of her. The Doctor had never known what a Dalek scream sounded like, but now he didn't have to wonder anymore.
"You shall not harm anyone else," she decided, voice monotonous, fueled only by instinct, as she waved her hand again, presumably getting rid of the rest of the Daleks.
"Rose," the Doctor breathed out, now sitting up on the floor.
Turning to face him, Bad Wolf's face softened as she faced him.
"You are injured."
"Give Rose back to me, please," he pleaded as she knelt beside him, her face blank. "Her body can't contain you, you'll kill her."
"No, I won't. You, Doctor, took what was needed to keep her alive," she explained, running her hand near the burn on his shoulder. "I am what you didn't remove. She'll live."
"Then at least give her back to me."
Cocking her head, Bad Wolf placed her hand directly over his injury and pressed into it as light seeped from her skin into his. When she pulled her hand back, there was no more pain, no injury. Not even a scar.
"You love her, don't you?" Bad Wolf asked.
"Yes, I love Rose very, very much," the Doctor admitted without hesitation. "There is no threat now, I promise you. Can Rose return now?"
Remaining silent, staring at the Doctor, Bad Wolf's face gave nothing away until the light faded from Rose's eyes, causing her to begin swaying and fall toward the floor.
Moving quickly, the Doctor grabbed her and pulled her into his lap, rubbing his thumb against her cheek as he drank in all of her features. He needed her to be okay, to still be Rose.
"Rose?" he asked carefully. "Are you okay?"
A small groan was all he got in response as her eyes fluttered open, looking up at him with confusion and tiredness.
"Doctor? What happened?" She asked weakly.
"Nothing," he replied. "Just you saving me."
Giving him a small smile, Rose pushed herself into the Doctor's arms, wrapping hers tightly around him.
"I'm happy you're okay."
"I'm happy you're okay too, Rose. Thank you for saving me."
