Chapter 1: Start
Chapter Text
“Uggh…. So glad that’s all over….” said Moon, trudging down the hall. He had finished checking on the others who had been in the battle, making sure they were healing well. Ruin was slowly recovering from their DSP poisoning, and Solar’s new hand was calibrating and healing nicely. Charlie and her brothers had been told to give their parents space to rest and were more than happy to do so…..
Jack, on the other hand, threw an absolute fit when he was separated from Solar and KC. Sun had tried scolding him for it since he was a preteen and not a child, but the others had given him some leeway given everything Jack had gone through in his short life. In the end, Jack had been allowed to stay with his father and step-father.
“I gotta get some work done and relax….” Moon said, sighing as he set down a portal and stepped through into his lab. The fresh greenery of the plants instantly eased some of his tension as he walked to the elevator and entered it, pushing the button for the lower portion of his lab. He rolled his shoulders, allowing his joints to crack as he stretched. When the elevator finally dinged he stepped out and-
“W-What?” he said, his eyes widening as the sight of about a dozen small robots roaming around his lab. Each one was performing a task, and as he slowly began walking he saw more and more of them.
“Hello Moon. Good to see you again. How are the others?” asked Spaniard, one of the nearby cameras moving to watch Moon.
“Uh, they’re doing good….. recovering well…. Spaniard, what is all this? Why are there so many robots around?” Moon asked as he stepped into the main portion of the lab, his question immediately getting answered when he spotted a familiar yellow bot at the central terminal.
“Hm? Ah, hello Moon, I wasn’t expecting you down here so soon…. I hope you don’t mind, but I made some helpers for around the lab, mainly cleaners and organizers…..” Dark Sun said, turning in the chair he was sitting in. He adjusted his glasses as he ushered a small cleaner bot away, the bot cheerily heading on it’s way.
“……. You….. built all these….?” Moon said, stunned. He and Dark Sun had literally just decided to give dating a try, but damn did Moon love how smart the former attendant was to create so many little bots in such a short amount of time.
“Yes, I figured you could use the help down here…. I also upgraded your computer’s drivers and storage capacity…. 500 gigabytes, really? That’s not much at all, so I changed it to 5 terabytes….” Dark Sun said, crossing his arms. Moon just stared, dumbfounded, until logic quickly caught up to his brain as he looked over Dark Sun. His shock quickly changed to panic and worry.
“You should be resting! Why are you down here working?!” Moon said, quickly walking over to him. Dark Sun rolled his eyes.
“Moon, it’s fine…. I- H-HEY!!” Dark Sun exclaimed, his face immediately glowing as Moon scooped him out of the chair and began carrying him out of the lab. “I can walk myself!” Dark Sun complained, struggling a bit.
“Absolutely not! You’re still recovering and need rest! How did you even get down here without your cane?!” Moon questioned, re-entering the elevator and hitting the button to go up. Dark Sun just grumbled in response. He wasn’t used to someone caring and didn’t know how to react. Moon sighed as they exited the elevator and he opened a portal back to the house. He went to take Dark Sun to the guest room, then paused before turning and walking in the opposite direction.
“Moon, w-where are you taking me?” Dark Sun asked, noticing Moon wasn’t taking him to the guest room.
“Here….” Moon said, stopping in front of a different door and opening it. The room inside was painted a deep navy blue with galaxies and star formations painted on the walls. The carpet was black and the furniture was all a dark ebony wood with shades of dark blue and black acting as accents. Various small handmade figures lines one of the shelves while the others were filled with things like a storm glass, a rubik’s cube, and other various science-themes knickknacks. Several pictures of the family were on the walls along with posters of anime and space.
“Moon, I don’t think-!” Dark Sun didn’t finish as the lunar bot laid him on the bed, Moon interrupting him.
“Don’t argue…. You need rest, and since the curtains are blackout ones they’ll block the sun and help keep the room dark….” Moon said, shaking his head.
“Moon, this is YOUR room…. I-I can’t-” Dark Sun tried again, but Moon was having none of it.
“Dark Sun, it’s fine…. Rest….” Moon said, leaving before Dark Sun could say anything else. Dark Sun sighed as the door closed, a soft yellow glow still on his face as he curled up. They had just started dating, and Moon was already okay with him sleeping in his bed? Dark Sun shook his head as sleep pulled him under. Maybe this would be an interesting experience after all….
Chapter 2: Peppermint

Here's chapter 2! enjoy!

Dark Sun stretched, grabbing his cane and making his way over to the bookshelf in Moon’s room. Moon had been adamant about keeping a close eye on the former attendant and, despite the two being so new to the relationship, had decided to move Dark Sun into his room with him. The others had been shocked at how quickly that decision had been made, but didn’t argue with Moon’s decision.
“Let’s see….. no, no, not that one…. Ah, here we are….” Dark Sun said, grabbing one of the books off the shelf. He smiled and made his way out of Moon’s room, heading to the little sitting area down the hall. He set the book on the table, then made his way down the stairs to the kitchen.
“Hiya Dark Sun!” Sun said cheerily, humming as he was in the middle of making cupcakes.
“Hello Sun…. Do you have any tea?” Dark Sun asked, opening one of the cabinets and looking inside it.
“Other cabinet, mugs are in the third cabinet…. Why do you ask?” asked Sun, scooping batter into the cupcake tin and placing it into the oven as he moved to work on the frosting.
“I simply enjoy a nice mug of tea as I read….” Dark Sun answered, putting water into the kettle and setting it on the stove to boil as he got a mug and began looking through the tea options as Moon walked in.
“Ooooo, cupcake frosting!” Moon said, trying to swipe a bit from the mixing bowl before being lightly bonked with the whisk by Sun.
“No! Bad Moon! It’s not ready yet!” Sun chided gently, shaking his head and rolling his eyes at Moon’s pout. Dark Sun chuckled at the interaction, frowning as he looked through the tea options. He checked over each one before eventually settling on a hibiscus tea, putting the others back with a sigh.
“Something wrong Dark Sun?” asked Moon, noticing his demeanor as he grabbed an thing of string cheese from the fridge.
“Hmm? Oh, no, nothing…. Just…. Well, it just seems like you don’t have many tea options….” Dark Sun said, turning off the kettle as if began to whistle and pouring the hot water into his mug.
“Oh? Sorry, not many of us drink tea so I never buy much… is there any particular flavor you were looking for?” Sun questioned, setting the frosting bowl in the mixer and setting it to mix.
“I’m fine with any flavor, but…. Well, I’m much more partial to peppermint than others….” Dark Sun said, shrugging as he finished making his tea and made his way back to the sitting area to read. Moon and Sun shared a look, Sun already seeing the gears turning in his younger twin’s head.
The next time Dark Sun went to make tea for his reading time he was surprised to find a couple of boxes of peppermint tea waiting for him.
Chapter 3: Ice Cream

“DAD! DAD! DAD!” Dazzle called, running to Sun. Sun looked down at her, chuckling as she bounced in place.
“What is it Dazzle?” he asked, smiling as he finished putting the groceries away.
“Can we go get ice cream?!” Dazzle asked looking at him expectantly. Sun chuckled again and knelt down to her.
“Do you want to go get ice cream?” he asked, already knowing the answer as Dazzle grinned.
“Yeah!” she answered. “Can Uncle Moon, Uncle KC, Uncle Dark Sun, Uncle Solar, and Jack come too?!” she asked, smiling.
“Of course sweetheart…..” Sun answered, standing and walking with her to the living room. Solar sat in one of the chairs on the balcony, watching as KC and Jack roughhoused and chased each other in the back yard, while Moon and Dark Sun sat on the couch discussing something.
“We going to go get ice cream! You’re all coming too!” Dazzle said, getting the attention of the three closest to her.
“Ice cream? That sounds good…. I’ll let KC and Jack know….” Solar said, getting up and heading down to the two lunar bots.
“Ice cream sounds awesome! Don’t you think Dark Sun?” asked Moon, turning to the former enemy. Dark Sun smiled, but it was small and seemed conflicted.
“I….. haven’t had ice cream in a long time…..” Dark Sun said, looking away and shrugging. Dazzle’s smile slowly faded and she walked over, standing in front of him.
“Why not?” she asked, tilting her head. He looked at her, debating with himself before deciding to give an answer she would understand.
“I….. let’s just say, a very mean person wouldn’t let me have any….” Dark Sun said, looking at his hands in his lap. He wasn’t ready to tell anyone about his past, let alone a child as young as Dazzle. Moon frowned and gently took his boyfriend’s hands in his own. Dazzle, meanwhile, gained a determined and serious look on her face.
“Well, the meanie that wouldn’t let you have ice cream isn’t here! So I say you get ice cream, Uncle Dark Sun!” She said, stomping her foot as Solar came back in with Jack and KC.
‘ICE CREAM!!!!” Jack shouted, running towards the door.
“Jack, wait for the rest of us….” KC said, Solar shaking his head with a smile as they followed. Moon chuckled as Dazzle quickly ran back to Sun, then stood and helped Dark Sun to his feet, handing him his cane.
“Come on, let’s go get some ice cream….” Moon said, smiling. Dark Sun nodded, allowing Moon to lead him after the others.
Dark Sun looked around the small ice cream parlor they had arrived at, surprised at how busy it was. KC and Solar were ahead of him and Moon with Jack, KC having to almost bend over to fit into the shop. Sun and Dazzle were behind him and Moon, discussing what they would get for their ice cream flavors.
“Got any in mind?” Moon asked, pulling Dark Sun from his thoughts.
“Huh?” he asked, turning his attention to the slightly taller bot beside him.
“Flavors. Got any flavors in mind?” Moon repeated, tilting his head.
“Oh, um…. I-I don’t know what they have….” Dark Sun said sheepishly.
“That’s ok, we’ll be able to choose when we get to the counter…..” Moon said, smiling reassuringly. Dark Sun nodded, moving forward with him as the line moved. Solar ordered for himself, KC and Jack, the three picking their favorite flavors and paying as Moon and Dark Sun looked over the choices. Dark Sun looked them over, then his eyes seemingly lit up at spotting a specific flavor.
“Hmm? See one you like?” asked Moon, noticing the sparkle in the sun model’s eyes. Dark Sun nodded and pointed, Moon looking where he was pointing and smiling. He nodded and when it was their turn he happily ordered a cone for Dark Sun and one for himself of their chosen flavors. After paying he handed Dark Sun his cone and took him outside, the two sitting on a bench just outside the ice cream parlor
“What made you choose that flavor?” Moon asked, tilting his head.
“…. it’s my favorite….” Dark Sun answered, slowly taking a small lick of his mint chip ice cream before happily eating more of it. Moon smiled and chuckled, enjoying his own moon mist cone.
Chapter 4: Games
Notes:
And Chapter 4 is here! Woo! (Don't worry, I'm working on chapter 19 of Hard To Accept :3)
Chapter Text
“Come on….. Come on…. DAMMIT!” Moon said, flopping back against the back of the couch. He had gotten so far, only to lose all that progress and have to start over. Stupid Grand Mother Silk…. He thought, sneering at the game over screen on the TV. He had been playing Silksong for hours and he hated that he needed to try the boss battle again.
“Moon?” Moon paused the game and looked behind him, watching as Dark Sun finished walking down the stairs.
“Hey Dark Sun, what’s up?” Moon asked, smiling.
“I heard you yelling,,,,, is everything alright?” Dark Sun asked, tilting his head. God, that was so cute in Moon’s mind. Moon chuckled as he set his controller down.
“Yeah, just lost the boss battle in the game I was playing…..” Moon answered, gesturing to the paused game on the TV. Dark Sun made a small ‘oh’ sound, making his way over to the couch and sitting down beside him.
“I’ve…. Never played a video game before…..” Dark Sun slowly said. He hadn’t been allowed to even watch anyone play one, so although he knew of them and about them he had never actually gotten to experience them like others.
“Wait, really?!” Moon looked at him in surprise. He figured Dark Sun had played at least one back in his dimension. When Dark Sun shook his head Moon saved his game and exited it, practically jumping from the couch and going to the game cabinet.
“What are you doing?” Dark Sun asked, watching as Moon pulled a game out of the cabinet and swapped the game currently in the console with the new one.
“Introducing you properly to the world of video games!” Moon said, grinning as he sat back down next to Dark Sun and handed the controller to his boyfriend. Dark Sun blinked, slowly setting his cane to the side and hesitantly accepting the controller. “We’re starting you off with something easy and calming, as some of the stuff the rest of us play tends to get… er, graphic, for lack of a better term….”
“I’m an adult Moon, I’m sure I can handle a bit of blood…..” Dark Sun said, chuckling.
“I’m not talking about the blood…. I don’t know your past, but if it’s anything like most Suns, I don’t want to expose you to the more…. Psychological stuff that many horror games nowadays like implementing into their stories….” Moon said, smiling as a cute and calming music began playing from the TV speakers.
“….. I appreciate it….” Dark Sun said, looking at the screen and then the controller, suddenly unsure of what to do.
“Here…..” Moon said, scooting over until he was sitting behind Dark Sun, his legs on either side of the former attendant and gently placing his hands over Dark Sun’s. He began teaching Dark Sun the buttons and controls, helping him where needed. He couldn’t help but laugh at Dark Sun’s face when he hit one of the buttons and watched the screen, Dark Sun looking shocked and slightly horrified.
“Was that supposed to happen?!” Dark Sun asked, looking back at Moon and frowning at the snickers the lunar model was making. “Moon, that’s not funny! It-”
“Dark Sun, relax….. yes, that was supposed to happen…… vacuuming them up is part of the game so you can bring them back to the ranch…. They’re not hurt by it, I promise….” Moon assured him, finding it cute how the kindness and worry typically associated with Suns was quick to break through Dark Sun’s usually stoic demeanor the minute he thought he had hurt a fictional slime; It was something Terra had told him was a sign that Dark Sun was starting to let his walls down and trust them.
“I…. I-I see….” Dark Sun huffed, a soft yellow glow on his face as he let Moon continue teaching him how to play. He had to admit, the game was fun and relaxing, and he was enjoying playing it with Moon. Maybe he could ask Moon to teach him to play more games…..
Chapter 5: Sick

“Moon, can you hand me the wrench?” Solar asked, holding out his hand. Moon handed him the wrench, frowning.
“You sure you’re healed enough to be working on stuff like this?” Moon asked, watching as Solar came out from under the car to stare at him.
“Moon, I’m fine, really…. My arm feels and works fine….. besides, I-” Solar was interrupted by the sound of coughing. Moments later Dark Sun slowly entered the garage, looking around until he spotted Moon and Solar. Moon smiled when he saw the other bot, but his smile faded as he watched Dark Sun approach.
“Dark Sun? Are you okay? What’s wrong?” Moon asked, meeting his boyfriend half. Dark Sun’s eyes were dimmer than normal, his rays lowered slightly and his movements sluggish.
“I….. I-I don’t know…. S-something…. Feels wrong…. I-I-ACHOO!” Dark Sun sneezed, then dropped his cane as he began coughing. He quickly began struggling when Molten suddenly appeared and grabbed him.
“You are sick….. you must be quarantined…..” Molten said, Dark Sun weakly squirming and trying to escape.
“WHOA! MOLTEN, PUT HIM DOWN!” Moon yelled, quickly helping Dark Sun out of Molten’s grip and holding the sun animatronic close.
“He has a virus, he must be-” Molten started, but stopped at the glare Moon gave him. Moon sighed and pinched the bridge of his faceplate.
“I’ll take care of him Molten…. Please, just…. Go play with the kids or something……” Moon asked. He waited until Molten left, then looked down at Dark Sun. “How the hell did you manage to get a virus?” he asked, his tone soft.
“I-I don’t…. k-know….” Dark Sun said, coughing. Moon sighed, looking at Solar when the mechanic placed a hand on his shoulder.
“Get him to your room…. I’ll let Sun know and we’ll get started on some soup or something for him….” Solar said, smiling. Moon nodded, gently picking up Dark Sun and carrying him bridal style to their room. Dark Sun let out a quiet whine, Moon frowning as he laid the former attendant on their shared bed.
“You’re really warm…. More than usual….. Were you looking through websites or something?” Moon asked, feeling Dark Sun’s forehead and frowning at the heat radiating off of the solar model. Dark Sun coughed, then sniffed as he shook his head. Moon hummed, thankful that viruses couldn’t be passed between them like human sicknesses. He told Dark Sun to try to sleep as he got up and headed downstairs.
Moon entered the kitchen to find Sun already working on a pot of chicken noodle soup. He sighed and walked over to the fridge, opening the freezer portion and grabbing an ice pack.
“Hey Moon, how is he?” Sun asked, watching his younger twin.
“It’s a small cold, nothing to serious thankfully….. He said he wasn’t visiting any websites or anything, so that rules those out….” Moon said, sighing again.
“Could he have gotten it simply by being connected to the wifi? That happened to Solar once…..” Sun suggested, frowning.
“Maybe…… either way, I’m gonna be taking care of him….” Moon said, smiling slightly. Sun nodded and handed him a bowl of soup.
“Here, this will help….” Sun said, smiling.
“Thanks Sunny….” Moon said, smiling back as he took the ice pack and soup back upstairs. He was going to make sure Dark Sun was properly taken care off as he recovered, then he would make sure to add extra firewalls to him to make sure such a situation would be less likely to happen again.
Chapter 6: Hobbies
Notes:
Chapter 6 is here! I'm working on the next chapter of Hard To Accept too, so be on the look out for that!
Chapter Text
Dark Sun sighed, closing his book. Terra was right; He couldn’t just keep reading any time he had free time. He slowly got up, putting his book back before heading out of the room. He carefully made his way downstairs, finding Solar and KC in the living room. Solar was leaning back against KC, a look of concentration on his face as he messed with something in his hands.
“Solar? What are you doing?” asked Dark Sun, moving closer to find a pair of crochet needles in the mechanic’s hands, a ball of yarn nearby and leading to whatever Solar was making.
“Hmm? Oh, hey Dark Sun…. Nothing much, just trying to make progress on this sweater for Jack….” Solar answered, gesturing to the object in his hands. “I started it during our crochet circle meeting, but I’ve been having to put it off with everything that happened….” he added, shrugging. Dark Sun hummed in thought, then walked over and sat in the chair.
“I see…. Maybe I give it a try? Terra’s been suggesting I find more hobbies besides just reading…..” Dark Sun said, setting his cane aside.
“Oh, sure! I think I have a pair of extra crochet hooks here somewhere….” Solar said, digging around in a bag Dark Sun had somehow missed. He soon handed a pair of crochet hooks to Dark Sun along with a ball of blue yarn. KC, who was curled around Solar, watched with a smile as Solar helped Dark Sun and taught him step by step how to crochet. Dark Sun was a fast learner, quickly picking up on the rhythm of making the loops and pulling the thread through.
“There you go! You’re getting the hang of it!” Solar said, returning to his own project. The three sat in silence for a while as they worked, and before long Dark Sun had some semblance of a scarf.
“It’s… not perfect, but it’s something….” Dark Sun said as he finished it, looking it over.
“The first project never is….” Solar said, chuckling. “You could be the fastest learner in the world, but it takes time and practice to get better….” he added. Dark Sun nodded, still looking over the scarf.
“I suppose you’re right….” he said, smiling slightly.
“Perhaps you can join the crochet circle next time there a meeting….” Solar suggested, placing his hooks where he could save his spot in the sweater he was making. Dark Sun nodded, then checked the time.
“Oh! We’ve been at this the whole day….” he said, surprised at how much time had passed.
“Time flies when you’re focused on something…. Don’t worry Dark Sun, there is plenty of time to try more activities and find hobbies you like….” KC said, as if sensing what was on Dark Sun’s mind. Dark Sun thought about it, then nodded as he knew KC was right. He thanked Solar and KC for letting him join them for the day, then got up and decided to head back to his and Moon’s room until dinner was ready.
“Just a little more….” Moon muttered to himself, sitting at his desk as he worked on something. Dark Sun entered the room and looked over.
“Moon?” Dark Sun asked, walking over to see Moon working on a small Sun figure. Moon jumped slightly and glanced over his shoulder.
“OH! Oh, hey Dark Sun…. What’s up?” Moon asked, smiling.
“Working on another figure?” Dark Sun asked, glancing at all of the others Moon had made.
“Yeah, figured I’d do something to keep busy till dinner….” Moon said. Dark Sun nodded, then looked down at the crochet scarf in his hand and gently wrapped it around Moon’s neck.
“Huh? What’s this?” asked Moon, looking at it.
“Solar let me crochet with him today, and I ended up making a scarf….. I figured you can have it for winter, as I know how much you hate the cold…” Dark Sun said, a soft yellow glow on his face. Moon studied him, then smiled.
“Thanks…. I like it…” he said, making Dark Sun’s face glow brighter. Dark Sun nodded and grabbed his book from the shelf, going to sit on the bed. Moon chuckled and turned back to his figure, very carefully painting a pair of deep garnet pupils into the figure’s eyes.
Chapter 7: Seasons
Chapter Text
Moon sighed, smiling as he sat on the balcony and looked out towards the lake at the changing leaves on the trees. Autumn had finally arrived, and he was going to enjoy the weather as much as he could. He looked over at the sound of the door opening, smiling when he sees Dark Sun exit the house.
“Hey…. Mind if I join?” Dark Sun asked, walking over to him. Moon nodded and stood up, pulling out one of the chairs of the table for Dark Sun to sit down. Dark Sun chuckled and sat down, breathing a sigh of relief.
“Pain flaring up?” asked Moon, looking at him with concern. Dark Sun avoided eye contact, nodding.
“Y-Yeah…. I’ll be okay though…..” Dark Sun answered, looking up and out towards the lake. “The trees are beautiful today….” he said, trying to change the subject. Thankfully Moon went along with it, turning his attention back to the backyard and trees.
“They are….. Autumn is here….” Moon said, stretching and putting his hands behind his head as he leaned back into his chair. Dark Sun nodded, glancing at him before focusing on the lake.
“…… you know, autumn is my favorite season….” Dark Sun said, catching Moon off guard.
“Oh? Really?” asked Moon, intrigued. Dark Sun nodded, relaxing a bit.
“Yes…. The weather is not too rainy, not too sunny…. The temperature is a nice 50-60 degrees, the colors are absolutely stunning…. It’s just…. Perfect….” Dark Sun said, smiling slightly. Moon watched him, smiling as he rested his elbow on the table and his chin in his hand.
“Yeah, it is….” he said. Dark Sun glanced at him, then rolled his eyes as he used his cane to gently knock Moon’s elbow off the table, nearly causing his head to fall.
“You’re hopeless….” Dark Sun said, a very slightly yellow glow on his face. Moon chuckled in response, shrugging.
“If you say so….. Honestly, I like autumn too….. it’s a great season…. Only thing I hate about it is that it means winter is on the way….” Moon said, shuddering at the thought of winter. Dark Sun raised an eyebrow as he turned to him.
“Not a fan of winter?” he asked, tilting his head.
“No! It’s cold, it brings all that gross slush and shit, it’s cold, bad snowstorms….. did I mention it’s fucking cold?!” Moon asked, listing off all the reasons he hated the season. Dark Sun couldn’t help but chuckle as he listened to the lunar bot rant about winter.
“Winter isn’t so bad…. Summer, on the other hand….” Dark Sun said, Moon looking at him again.
“What, you don’t like summer?” asked Moon, chuckling.
“No, I don’t…. it’s too hot, there are bugs everywhere, you can barely go anywhere because there are so many crowds…… I can’t stand it…” Dark Sun said, making a look of disgust. Moon snorted slightly, moving his leg to avoid the light jab from Dark Sun’s cane.
“That’s fair, that’s fair…. At least we can enjoy a season like autumn…. And this time, we’re doing it together…” Moon said, very lightly taking one of Dark Sun’s hands in his own. Dark Sun once again avoided eye contact, but nodded with a light glow on his face. Autumn was his favorite season, and maybe this time he could actually enjoy it.
Chapter 8: Phobia
Chapter Text
Moon groaned, sighing as he checked his internal clock. It was midnight, meaning everyone should be asleep. What had woken him up? He got his answer in the form of loud thunder rumbling outside and rain pounding the outside of the house. Ah, that’s what. He sighed again and was about to try to fall back asleep when his audials caught the quietest whimper from next to him. It was so quiet that he almost missed it.
“Dark Sun?” he questioned, turning to face the sun model. Dark Sun was wide awake, slightly curled in on himself and shaking. He let out another quiet whimper, flinching at a flash of lightning from outside and curling in on himself more.
“Hey…. Hey, come here……” Moon said quietly, gently wrapping his arms around his former enemy and pulling him close. “What’s got you so shaken up? It’s just a storm….” Moon said, frowning at how badly Dark Sun was shaking.
“I-I don’t like storms……. I-I don’t like them……” Dark Sun said, his voice still very quiet. He covered his audials, trying desperately to drown out the sounds of the storm. Moon tightened the hug slightly, rubbing Dark Sun’s back and comforting him.
“……. does it have to do with your past?” Moon asked, knowing he probably wouldn’t get an answer. Dark Sun surprisingly nodded, tears pricking his eyes. He said nothing however, and Moon accepted that Dark Sun wouldn’t say any specifics.
“Make it stop…. Please make it stop….” Dark Sun quietly pleaded, his breath hitching slightly.
“Hey, shh…. Shh…. It’s okay…. You’re okay…..” Moon comforted, gently resting his chin on top of Dark Sun’s head. Dark Sun whined and buried his face in Moon’s chest, letting his boyfriend hold and comfort him as the storm raged outside. Moon knew some people were scared of storms, but this was more than just a simple fear.
“I want it to stop….” Dark Sun, quickly wrapping his arms around Moon and holding onto him tightly.
“I know…. I’m here…. You’re safe here….” Moon said, frowning. He continued whispering reassurances to Dark Sun, who eventually fell asleep. Moon gently nuzzled the top of his head, smiling softly. “Goodnight, Dark Sun…..” Moon whispered, slowly falling back asleep as he cuddled with his boyfriend.
Chapter 9: Stars
Chapter Text
“Where are you taking me Moon?” asked Dark Sun, letting Moon lead him through the woods by the house. It was dusk, and Moon had said something about stars and making sure ‘the view is clear’. Moon didn’t answer, instead carefully helping Dark Sun over a log.
“Just a little further, I promise!” Moon said, smiling.
“You’ve said that twice already….. seriously Moon, where are you- taking….. me….?” Dark Sun trailed off as they entered a small clearing. Above the clearing was the clearest view of the sky Dark Sun had ever seen, and in the center on the ground was a picnic set-up.
“I…. know we just kinda hopped into a relationship, but I wanna do this right, so I figured we could have our first ‘official’ date be a stargazing picnic!” Moon said, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly. Dark Sun continued staring at the picnic in shock before slowly turning to his boyfriend.
“You… set this up…. For me? …….. What’s the catch?” asked Dark Sun, stunned. He wasn’t used to such nice gestures being done without the one doing them wanting something in return.
“No catch, I promise….. I know it might be hard to believe, but it’s the truth….” Moon chuckled, gently taking Dark Sun’s hand and leading him over to the picnic blanket. He helped him sit down before sitting down himself, opening the basket.
“Forgive me…. I’m…. not used to-”
“Having nice things done without expectations? Don’t worry, I think a lot of us have experienced that….” Moon said, chuckling. He slowly began pulling out different food, from small sandwiches to pieces of fruit to even some sparkling grape juice. Dark Sun watched him, then looked at the ground.
“I’ve….. never seen the stars before…. Not properly, at least……” Dark Sun said, Moon looking at him in shock.
“Never?!” asked Moon, making sure he had heard Dark Sun properly.
“Only in books and movies…. The realm I got my dragon from was pitch black, and I never finished my pocket dimension so it never received a night and day cycle…… And any time it was night in this dimension I was either busy observing you all or stuck inside…. The only stars I ever saw in my old dimension were the ones in the Daycare….” Dark Sun admitted, slightly picking at the blanket. Moon frowned, then smiled as he opened the grape juice.
“Then you’re in for a treat!” Moon said, pouring some juice into a cup and handing it to Dark Sun. Dark Sun looked up at him, then smiled and accepted the cup, the two starting to eat. He hoped Moon was right.
As the sky darkened the stars slowly began coming out, and Dark Sun was stunned by the beautiful visuals he was seeing. Thousands of stars dotted the dark navy night sky, making it look like it was covering in glitter. Not just stars either; he could see the actual Milky Way stretching across the sky, along with a couple of planets and constellations.
“Wow…..” Dark Sun said in awe. Moon chuckled and hold him close, then began pointing out the constellations and various stars. Dark Sun smiled and joined in, using everything he had read to identify which planets were currently visible and even a couple of nebulae he could see.
They did this for several minutes before a flash caught Dark Sun’s eye. He quickly sat up straighter, looking around the sky to see where the flash came from.
“What is it?” asked Moon, noticing.
“I saw something-” Dark Sun paused as he saw it again: a brief flash streaking across the sky. This time Moon noticed it as well, and soon there were more streaks in the sky.
“A meteor shower!” said Moon, grinning. Dark Sun looked at him, then back at the sky before hesitantly leaning against Moon again. Seeing the stars in person was more exciting than Dark Sun had previously thought, and perhaps he had found a new hobby he can share with Moon and the others.
Chapter 10: Music
Chapter Text
Dark Sun was sitting on the floor, looking through the various CDs the family had. He had never been allowed to listen to anything but the Daycare theme back in his old dimension, and never really took time out of his planning before to branch out, but now that he was at a peaceful place in his life he was curious what other music sounded like.
“Find anything interesting?” asked a voice, making Dark Sun jump and nearly drop the CD case he was holding.
“Fucking hell Moon!” Dark Sun swore, turning to glare up at his boyfriend. Moon snickered and plopped down beside him, picking up one of the CD cases. Dark Sun had been letting more of his true personality show the more time he spent with the family, something that Moon loved seeing.
“Sorry, I couldn’t resist! So, find anything you like?” he asked, looking over the CD in his hands. Because there were so many people in the house, they had a large collection of CDs ranging from kids music for Dazzle, to rock and nerdcore for himself and Solar, and even some classical and CDs from musicals for when Ruin and Eclipse visited with their kids.
“I’ve…. Never heard anything outside of that stupid Daycare song…. I’m curious what other music sounds like…..” Dark Sun answered, turning back to the CD in his own hands. It appeared to be one containing music from a movie, judging from the art on the cover.
“Wow, you weren’t given much freedom in the past, were you? Hold on…..” Moon said, getting up and heading out of the room. Dark Sun sighed, frowning
If only you knew Moon…… he thought, frowning. He looked over as Moon returned, the lunar attendant carrying a pair of headphones and what looked like a CD player.
“Here, let’s get you listening to some proper music!” Moon said, grinning as he took the CD from Dark Sun. He opened the played and the case, moving the disc into the player and closing it before carefully placing the headphones on Dark Sun’s head and hitting the play button. Dark Sun froze as the CD began playing, then slowly reached up and placed his hands over the headphones as he listened.
“This is…. So different……” he said, listening as the first song on the CD played, surprised when parts of it were sang in another language. “Is… that Korean?” he asked, looking at Moon.
“Yeah! It’s K-pop! There’s gonna be some Korean in the songs!” Moon said, laughing slightly. Dark Sun nodded, a smile slowly forming on his face as he continued listening. “Oh, I gotta go check on something…. Be back soon!” Moon said, placing a quick kiss on Dark Sun’s cheek before heading out. Dark Sun’s face glowed at the sign of affection, but he tried distracting himself by continuing to listen to the various CDs he had with him.
Imagine Moon’s surprise when he returned to find the former attendant leisurely listening to one of his Skillet CDs. Dark Sun had organized the CDs into two neat stacks: music he found he liked and music he didn’t. Turns out Dark Sun had similar music tastes to Moon himself, and the two quickly found something new to bond over.
Chapter 11: Flowers
Chapter Text
“Aaaannd there! Much better!” said Terra, smiling as she finished watering her marigolds. Her garden was getting better every day, and she loved that her family could enjoy it as much as she did. She set her watering can down and wheeled over to join the others at the outdoor seating area.
“My word Terra, your garden is magnificent! I imagine you’d be able to get any flower growing and thriving here!” Ruin said, taking a sip of their tea.
“Oh, I don’t know about that….. some flowers and plants have very specific requirements that I don’t think I’d be able to fulfill here…” Terra replied, smiling sheepishly.
“You? Not being able to fulfill a plant’s needs to help it grow? I’ll believe that when pigs fly….” Eclipse said, laughing.
“Honestly Terra, your garden is one of the most vibrant and well cared for I’ve seen! I mean, just look at these gorgeous roses!” Ruin added, smiling as they gestured to the nearby rosebush, the red blooms full and bright.
“You’re just saying that because roses are your favorite flower….” Terra said, smiling.
“At least mine is a flower…. Eclipse here loves venus flytraps!” Ruin said, shooting a pointed look at their boyfriend, who gave a smirk back.
“Venus Flytraps are cool….. Sure, they’re not showy like roses, but I must say they look good with them~….” Eclipse’s voice dropped to a purr, chuckling when Ruin’s face glowed purple and the theater bot turned away.
“Alright you two, enough flirting…… you already have a baby on the way, we don’t need you trying to make another one….” Moon said, sputtering as a pillow hit his face. Eclipse burst out laughing as Ruin looked horrified.
“MOON, T-THAT WAS NOT NECESSARY!” Ruin stammered, Eclipse pulling them close and trying to calm them through his laughter. Sun rolled his eyes, setting down his cup.
“Changing the subject….. What’s your favorite flower Terra? You have so many, it must be hard to choose just one…” he said, turning to his sister.
“Oh! I adore cherry blossoms! They’re so pretty and they bloom even when there’s snow on the ground, and when the petals fall it’s like a fairytale!” Terra gushed, sparkles in her eyes as she spoke.
“Cherry blossoms? Those are pretty….. did you know they symbolize transience of life, gentleness, kindness, and acceptance of imperfections?” Solar chimed in from where he and KC sat. Eclipse snorted and turned to look at them.
“Was wondering when the resident flower symbolism expert would jump in….” he said, chuckling as Solar shot him a playful glare.
“Yeah yeah, I’m content with just listening….” Solar said, rolling his eyes.
“Well, do you have a favorite flower?” Eclipse asked, raising an eyebrow.
“I do actually…. The dandelion….” Solar said, smiling.
“Isn’t that a weed?” asked Sun, frowning.
“Not necessarily….” Dark Sun interjected, setting down his own cup. “A weed is simply a plant growing in a place you do not want it to grow….. there are many who like dandelions for various reasons, be it the fact they help preventing soil erosion or them bringing necessary nutrients to surface soil with their long roots….. They do have their charm about them….” he said, smiling.
“He’s right…. Plus, they’re edible!” Moon said, earning an eyeroll from his boyfriend. He chuckled and took Dark Sun’s hand. “What’s your favorite plant or flower, Dark Sun?” asked Moon, tilting his head. Dark Sun’s smile vanished and he thought it over, waiting a few minutes before finally giving his answer.
“Hawthorn…. Hawthorn has always been my favorite….” he said, a small smile on his face.
“Hawthorn is so pretty!” Terra said, smiling. Dark Sun nodded, though he caught Solar’s eye as the others continued talking. He knew the mechanic knew the real reason he had hawthorn as his favorite plant…. And just as he hoped, Solar did and nodded, keeping quiet about it as he turned to talk to KC.
Chapter 12: Babysitting
Chapter Text
“Jack, can you pass me the red?” Dazzle asked, pointing to the red marker. Jack nodded, handing her the marker before turning back to his own drawing.
“When is Dad and Ruru going to be back? It’s not fair that Andrew got to go with them!” said Andy, turning to Dark Sun, who had been asked to watch the kids for the day while the adults went to run errands.
“They should be back soon Andy…. And Andrew didn’t go with them, he went to hang out with his friends…. He’s a teenager, he has a bit more freedom than you younger kids do….” Dark Sun answered, glancing up from his book. He was about to return to reading when Charlie screamed.
“OWOWOW!” she cried, her and Jake panicking as she held her hand to her chest. Dark Sun immediately put his book down and made his way over to them, his nearly forgotten DCA programming kicking in as he knelt beside them.
“Let me see…..” he said, gently taking her hand and looking it over. He frowned at the cut on her finger, most likely from the scissors she had been using for her crafts. “Come along, we’ll get that cleaned up and bandaged….. okay?” he said, standing.
“O-Okay…” Charlie said, standing as well and letting him lead her to the nearest bathroom. He turned on the faucet and dampened a bit of toilet paper, gently cleaning the cut with water. Had Charlie been a human child he would’ve also used an anti-septic wipe to clean the cut, but he saw no need as germs did not affect them. He grabbed a bandaid and carefully covered the cut with it.
“There…. Do try to be more careful, alright Charlie? I don’t need Eclipse trying to hunt me down like prey….” Dark Sun said, knowing full well that Eclipse would completely lose it if any of his kids got seriously injured. The four-armed bot was highly protective of them, and Dark Sun shuddered slightly remembering the last time someone had tried to hurt Charlie.
“I’ll try Mister Dark Sun…. Thank you…..” Charlie said, looking down at her bandaged finger.
“Of course…. Now, let’s get you back to your crafts, alright?” Dark Sun said, leading her back to the living room.
When Moon got home with Sun and Solar he went to check on Dark Sun and the kids, finding them all in the basement with a movie playing. All of the kids were sleep, and Moon had to keep from saying anything when he found his boyfriend asleep as well. He would have to convince Sun and them to let Dark Sun babysit more often, especially if it led to such cute scenes like the one currently in front of Moon.
Chapter 13: Pain
Notes:
hehehe, some hurt/comfort for y'all in this chapter >:3
Chapter Text
“Fuckfuckfuck………. Just…. Gotta get to the kitchen….” Dark Sun hissed, using the railing for balance. Tears pricked his eyes as harsh pain shot through his body with every step, taking a deep breath to not just burst into sobs right then and there. Like Terra with her DSP infection, he had his good days and his bad days, and for some reason the DSP in him decided that today was going to be a VERY bad day for him pain-wise.
“Just… a l-little…. F-further……” Dark Sun told himself, managing to get to the bottom of the stairs. However, it was at this point his body decided to give up and his legs crumpled under him, forcing him to the ground with a loud thud and an equally loud curse. The sound of rushing footsteps reached his audials and soon both Sun and Moon were kneeling over him, extremely concerned expressions on their faces.
“Dark Sun, are you alright?! Oh gosh, this isn’t good!” Sun said, panicking slightly. Dark Sun couldn’t move, his pain sensors working overtime as he felt said pain pulsing through his body.
“Dark Sun, hey, look at me….” Moon said, gently turning Dark Sun’s head up to look at him. Dark Sun whined and the tears he had been holding back began to fall, his simulated breath quickening a bit. ‘Is it the DSP?” Moon asked softly, frowning when Dark Sun managed to give a slightly nod. Moon sighed and shared a look with Sun, the two nodding before Moon shifted positions slightly.
“I’ll talk to Cosmos, see what can be done to help….” Sun said, getting up and walking away as he called the Astral.
“I’m going to pick you up, alright aurora?” Moon said, not moving until he got an answer from the other. Dark Sun gave a shaky nod, a light yellow glow on his face. He didn’t know when Moon had started using the pet name, but he found he didn’t mind it. His thoughts were broken as he felt Moon’s arms moving under him to pick him up, hissing in agony as Moon stood with him and carried him bridal style back to their room.
“It h-hurts so much….” Dark Sun managed to stammer out, resting his head on Moon’s shoulder as more tears streamed down his face.
“Shh… I know it does…. It’s going to be ok…. From now on though, I want you to message me or Sun or someone else if it gets this bad again, alright?” Moon said, gently laying Dark Sun in bed once they reached their room. Dark Sun nodded, grateful when Moon turned down his pain receptors slightly. He was so glad to have someone like Moon with him; it made the pain easier to bear, and he knew he didn’t have to bear it alone.
Chapter 14: Colors
Chapter Text
“Why must you have so much blue Moon?” asked Sun, frowning as he cleaned Moon’s room.
“It’s my favorite color, you know this Sun…. Besides, I have some black and silver in there too! And I can clean my own room dammit!” Moon said, glaring at his older twin. Sun rolled his eyes, finishing up gathering Moon’s laundry from the hamper before leaving. Moon grumbled, following him.
“There’s still such a thing as having too much of one color….” Sun said, walking downstairs.
“Says the one whose room is mostly yellow…” Moon said snidely, smirking as the sunny attendant glared at him.
“Go bother someone else!” Sun said, playfully throwing a shirt at his younger twin. Moon cackled as he dodged and ran, entering the living room where KC and Solar were watching a movie with Jack.
“Bothering Sun again?” asked KC, chuckling.
“He’s complaining about how much blue I have in my room…. Maybe I should add some more variety or something….” Moon said, shrugging and thinking out loud.
“You do have a lot of blue….” Solar said, earning a slight glare from the lunar attendant.
“What, like I’m not going to walk into your room and see a bunch of orange?!” Moon questioned, earning a snort from the mechanic.
“No, because unlike you and Sun I don’t decorate my room all one color…. Besides, orange isn’t my favorite color….” Solar said, rolling his eyes.
“It’s not?” Moon asked, perplexed by the statement.
“No, it’s not….. it is, however, mine~….” KC purred, nuzzling Solar. Solar chuckled, leaning back against his boyfriend. “Solar’s is grey….”
“Mine’s brown!” Jack piped up, his eyes not leaving the movie. Moon rolled his eyes, then noticed Dark Sun sitting outside on the back balconey. He left Solar and his little family to their movie as he walked to the back doors and opened them, catching Dark Sun’s attention.
“Mind if I join you?” Moon asked, smiling as he closed the door and took a seat beside Dark Sun.
“I could say no, but you’re already sitting so that would be fruitless….” the former attendant said with a smile. “What brings you out here anyways?”
“Sun complaining about my room being mostly blue….” Moon said, sighing. He then looked at Dark Sun, studying him for a minute. “Let me guess…. Red, right?” Moon asked, catching Dark Sun off guard.
“What?”
“Red…. It’s your favorite color, right? You’re always wearing some shade of red…..” Moon said, gesturing to Dark Sun’s red shirt. Dark Sun looked at him, then chuckled.
“Actually, no, red isn’t my favorite color….. I wear a lot of red because it’s one of the few colors that doesn’t clash with my casings….” Dark Sun admitted, surprising Moon.
“Really? Huh…. Wait, if it’s not red, then what is it?” Moon asked, tilting his head. Dark Sun chuckled again, slowly standing and heading to the door, just before he went inside he looked back at Moon with a small smile.
“It’s blue….” he answered, opening the door and heading inside. Moon found himself frozen in shock, unable to think straight. He was now definitely not going to change his room color, no matter how much Sun complained.
Chapter 15: Rain
Chapter Text
Dark Sun sighed, laying on the bed as he watched the rain falling outside. It was another one of his bad pain days, so Moon had confined him to the bed to rest. Not that he minded at the moment; sure, he was terrified of storms, but he had always found a simple rainy day calming. Watching the droplets hit the window and listening to the patter of rain on the roof allowed his mind to dissociate and let him forget his troubles, at least for a while. He perked up at a sound behind him, turning over with a wince to find Moon entering the room.
“H-Hey….” Dark Sun said, his voice quiet. Dammit, it even hurt to talk. It was definitely one of his worse days.
“Hey… how are you feeling?” asked Moon quietly, gently closing the door and walking over with a glass of water.
“L-Like shit….” Dark Sun said, hissing in pain as he tried to move again. Moon sat on the bed and gently stopped him.
“Easy…… Here, I bought you some pain pills….. I know they won’t help the worst of it, but they’ll at least numb a bit of the pain….. Terra uses them all the time….” Moon said, smiling as he pulled a couple of white pills from his pocket. Dark Sun gratefully took them, Moon helping him wash them down with the glass of water.
“T-Thank you…” Dark Sun said, turning to look back out the window.
“I thought you hated rain….” said Moon, looking out the window.
“I h-hate storms…. But, gentle rain like this d-doesn’t bother me… I find it calming…. It let’s me just…. Forget about things, at least for a while….” Dark Sun said, a small smile on his face. Moon smiled as he turned back to Dark Sun.
“alright, let’s scooch you over…. I’m joining you…” Moon said, gently helping Dark Sun move slightly so he could lay down beside the former attendant and wrap his arms around him. “This ok?” asked Moon, making sure his boyfriend was comfortable with it as he knew Dark Sun was still very unused to affection of any kind.
‘I-it’s fine…” Dark Sun said, his head resting on Moon’s chest. After a couple of minutes he felt his body relax, the pain killers thankfully dulling at least some of his pain, and before long the sounds of rain and Moon’s internal gears lulled him into a peaceful slumber.
Chapter 16: Beliefs
Notes:
totally not partially projecting on Dark Sun in this chapter y'all
Chapter Text
Sun hummed as he got the groceries from the car, closing the trunk before walking up the sidewalk to the front door. He was about to open the door when it flew open, Dark Sun on the other side looking like he was about to step out.
“Oh! Hello Dark Sun! Are you going somewhere?” asked Sun, smiling. He quickly took notice that Dark Sun had a look of fear on his face before quickly masking it, tightening his grip on both his cane and what looked like a vial he was holding.
“Just… stepping outside for a breath of fresh air….” Dark Sun said, stepping aside as he let Sun enter. Sun glanced back as Dark Sun exited, frowning when he saw his counterpart sprinkling something onto the ground from the vial.
“Hey, Moon?” called Sun, heading to the kitchen to find his brother looking through the fridge.
“Yeah? What’s up?” asked Moon, pulling out of the fridge with a can of soda.
“Do you have any idea what Dark Sun is doing? When I came home he opened the door and started sprinkling something in front of the door from a vial….” Sun said, putting the grocery bags on the kitchen island and beginning to put stuff away.
“Oh, that? He’s done it to the back doors too…. He seems hesitant to talk much about it though…. When I asked all he would tell me is that it had something to do with prosperity or something…. I do know that the thing he’s sprinkling from the vial is a dust he made from crushing some plants though….” Moon explained, opening his soda and taking a drink.
“Prosperity? How odd…. Also, what kind of plants, and how did he crush them? I hope he didn’t use any of my dishes for that…” Sun said slightly sternly.
“Relax Sunny, he asked me to buy him a mortar and pestle for that because he knew you would throw a fit if he used the dishes…. As for the plants, let me think…. I remember seeing him picking some of the goldenrod that’s growing in the back yard, as well as some of the honeysuckle flowers…. I think he also borrowed a bit of the cinnamon, basil, and dill we keep in the spice cabinet…. There was another one, but I forgot what it was….” Moon explained, listing off each plant as he thought it over.
Sun frowned as he listened, taking in the information. He went to say something when they heard the front door open and close, Dark Sun coming back into the house.
“Dark Sun, can you come here a sec?” Sun called as Dark Sun walked past the kitchen doorway. Dark Sun visibly flinched, then composed himself before hesitantly entering the kitchen.
“Did you need something Sun?” he asked, trying to keep his voice calm and nonchalant.
“Dark Sun, what was that dust I saw you sprinkling in front of the door?” Sun asked. There it was again: that brief flicker of fear in Dark Sun’s face before he pushed it down. “Dark Sun, don’t try to hide it…. I saw that look of fear just now…. There’s nothing to be afraid of here, we’re not going to hurt you…. We just want to know what you’re doing….” explained Sun, growing concerned about the other Sun’s behavior.
“….. It was money dust…. Sprinkling it in front of doors is supposed to bring prosperity into the home….” Dark Sun quietly answered, looking away. He looked up as Moon walked over and gently took the now empty vial from him, setting it aside to take Dark Sun’s hand.
“Is that all? Dark Sun, you don’t have to hide stuff like that from us….” Moon said, frowning when Dark Sun looked away again.
“Moonbeam and I…. always had different beliefs…. Very early on in our existence when I had more freedom I discovered online forums about witchcraft and such, and he didn’t like that I was taking an interest in it so he banned me from having internet access, as well as from doing anything related to it….” Dark Sun said, surprising both Moon and Sun.
“You’re a witch?” asked Sun, tilting his head. Dark Sun nodded quietly.
“Not like how you’re a mage, but yes…. I’m more… practical in my practice…. I don’t draw on magic like you do, but I use plants and such with certain associations…..” he said, looking up when Sun began laughing.
“Dark Sun, we’re not gonna judge you for that! Like you just pointed out, I use magic all the time! Sure, the way we do them is different, but that doesn’t mean we’re going to be mad about it!” Sun said, still laughing.
“He’s right, we’re not going to judge…. You don’t have to hide that kind of stuff anymore….. Honestly, I would love to hear more about your practice and beliefs….” Moon said, smiling and giving Dark Sun’s hand a gentle squeeze. Dark Sun looked up at him, then gave a small smile.
“I… would love to be more open about it with you… and the others, if they’ll accept it….” he said.
“I’m certain they will….” said Moon, gently kissing Dark Sun’s forehead.
Chapter 17: Pets
Chapter Text
“Cleo! Muffin! Lunch time!” called Sun, smiling as the two cats came running. He hummed as he filled their food bowls, watching happily as they ate.
“You baby those two….” Moon said, grabbing a soda from the fridge.
“Of course! They deserve to be babied!” Sun retorted, feigning offense to his brother’s statement. Moon snickered and rolled his eyes, watching as the cats finished and ran off upstairs. He shook his head and exited the kitchen, having to step back as Daisy nearly hopped into him.
“Sorry Moon! She just got a little excited!” Terra said, picking up the rabbit,
“It’s alright…. It was nice of you and Monty to bring her over to play with the kids….” Moon said, petting the rabbit.
“Oh of course! She adores playing with the kids! Though I think her and the cats have caused Jack to start asking Solar for a pet….” Terra said, looking over to where Jack was currently trying to convince his father to get a pet.
“Don’t they already have one with KC?” Moon asked, grinning.
“I heard that Moondrop….” KC said from his place sprawled across the couch, his head snapping to Solar as the mechanic tried and failed at holding in a snort. Solar must’ve known he messed up, because he immediately took off running, KC leaping from the couch and giving chase into the backyard.
“Jack, go get your dads before they hurt themselves…..” Moon said, taking a sip of his soda.
“Okay!” Jack said, happily going after the two. Moon rolled his eyes and began heading upstairs, snickering as a loud ‘EW, GROSS!’ from Jack was heard from the backyard. He shook his head and made his way to the upstairs sitting area, smiling and leaning against the wall as he took in the sight before him.
Dark Sun, as he often was at this time of day, was reading a book. A cup of peppermint tea sat on the side table, and in his lap sat two very happy and content cats, Moon hearing their purrs from where he was standing. He made his way over and sat beside his boyfriend, reaching over and petting Muffin.
“They like you….” he said, chuckling as Cleo stretched and sprawled across his owner’s lookalike, trying to take up as much room from Muffin as possible.
“Pretty sure they only like me because I look like Sun…. And the fact that us sun models run warmer than other animatronics….” Dark Sun replied, stroking Cleo’s back as the cat purred and kneaded the arm of the couch.
“Nah, they like you as you…. Trust me, KS looks like Sun and Cleo and Muffin hiss up a storm whenever he shows up….” Moon said, chuckling. He looked at Dark Sun’s face, his smile softening. “…. you miss your dragon, don’t you?” he asked, already knowing the answer.
“….. I know releasing him into an empty dimension was the right thing to do, but sometimes….. sometimes I wish he had been able to come with me to live here…..” Dark Sun said quietly, closing his book. Moon scooted closer, gently taking Dark Sun’s hand.
“Maybe we can get you a new pet… one that won’t eat all matter and send it to the Void….” Moon said, smiling at the chuckle he got from Dark Sun.
“Maybe…. We would need to make sure it can’t be eaten by the cats….. or KC for that matter….” Dark Sun said, shuddering as he remembered the last time KC had let his code take over, the predatory animatronic bringing home a half-eaten deer as a result. How Solar could still even kiss the larger bot after that was a mystery to everyone.
“Deal!” Moon said, snorting. He began going through the options for pets, knowing they would pick one when they were ready.
Chapter 18: Cooking
Chapter Text
Dark Sun hummed, looking over the book page he was on. The recipe was simple enough: peanut butter. He had asked Sun to help him gather the ingredients, now all he had to do was follow the recipe to make the dish. He hadn’t made anything like this in a long time, so he hoped he wouldn’t mess it up.
“Whatcha doin’?” asked a voice, startling Dark Sun. The former attendant turned, finding Moon eating some of the peanut butter. He sighed, rolling his eyes.
“Moon, that’s supposed to be for the dish! You’re lucky Sun and I brought home a couple of extra jars...….” Dark Sun lightly reprimanded, going into the cabinet to grab another jar of peanut butter. Moon chuckled, still eating from his jar.
“You do know Dazzle can’t have peanut butter or anything with gluten, right?” Moon asked, watching as Dark Sun rolled up his sleeves to start working.
“I’m aware Moon….. Sun told me, and we figured it would be best for him to make her an alternative version with almond butter instead….. Now, are you just going to eat all of the peanut butter, or are you here to help me with this?” asked Dark Sun, crossing his arms with a smile. Moon rolled his eyes as he pretended to think, then set his jar aside and began washing his hands.
“What are you making anyways?” he asked, glancing at the recipe book.
“Something called buckeye candies…. They sounded good, and they seem to fit the time of year perfectly….. Sun said they were more popular in places like Ohio, but-”
“No OhIo!” Moon whined, laughing at the weird look Dark Sun gave him. “I’ll show you later…” he said through chuckles. Dark Sun rolled his eyes.
“As I was saying, I figured they would be a nice snack for the autumn season…. Would you mind adding the sugar a bit at a time into the bowl when I’m done combining these?” Dark Sun finished, gathering up the peanut butter, vanilla extract, and butter and combining it in a bowl as stated in the recipe. Moon nodded and grabbed the confectioner’s sugar, waiting for Dark Sun’s signal to begin adding it in.
“Like this?” asked Moon, adding a bit at a time and watching as the mixture slowly turned into a type of dough.
“Yes, perfect…. Alright, now we just need to roll this dough into balls and melt the chocolate and-” Dark Sun sputtered as his vision was suddenly clouded, waiting several minutes before opening his eyes to Moon cackling like a hyena. Dark Sun quickly grabbed the nearest reflective service, in his case a spoon, and was horrified to find his entire face and parts of his shirt and vest were covered in sugar!
“The look on your face!” Moon said, still laughing. Dark Sun shot him a death glare before using the spoon he had to scoop out a small bit of dough and flick it at Moon, having to contain his own laughter when it hit the lunar attendant square in the forehead. Moon looked up at it in shock, but before he could retaliate Sun’s voice came from the floor above.
“You two better not be making a mess in my kitchen!” Sun yelled, causing the two to look up at the ceiling. They looked at each other, then broke into stifled giggles and snickers as they went back to making the food, making sure to clean as they went.
Chapter 19: Scent
Chapter Text
“Let’s see…..” Dark Sun said, looking through the options. He was out with Solar and Sun, the three doing some shopping as they were running low on some stuff. Dark Sun himself had gone with Sun to the home décor section and was currently looking through the candles.
“Ooo, candles! So many different scents to choose from!” Sun said, picking up a cherry pie scented one and smelling it.
“Almost too many…..” Dark Sun said, chuckling. He picked up a green candle and took a small sniff, recoiling and putting it back quickly.
“Not a fan of eucalyptus?” asked Sun, chuckling.
“No…. I had to smell that shit every day back when I had to clean the Daycare in my dimension…. I’d rather not have it in the house….” Dark Sun answered, grimacing.
“Fair enough….” said Sun, putting the cherry pie candle back and picking up a different candle. Solar, who had been getting more yarn for the weekly crochet circles, rejoined them and looked at all the candles.
“Candles, huh? I don’t think the house smells bad enough to warrant those….” he said with a smile.
“Solar, no offense, but KC isn’t exactly…. The nicest smelling animatronic….” Sun said carefully. He and the others adored KC and loved having him with them, but the predatory bot often went out hunting and wasn’t always clean when he returned.
“Hey! I happen to like how my boyfriend smells, thank you very much…” Solar said, crossing his arms.
“You like the smell of rotting carcasses?” Dark Sun asked, raising an eyebrow.
“He does not smell like rotting meat! Sure, he did in the beginning, but he doesn’t anymore! Besides, he’s been getting better since he started washing…..” Solar said, rolling his eyes.
“He washes? How? From what I can tell, he’s too big for the showers, and he hasn’t been using the hose or anything….” said Sun, tilting his head.
“He’s been using my shower, since it’s the biggest one in the house…… I’ve been showing him how to use it-” his face immediately started glowing red at the knowing smirks he got from Dark Sun and Sun at his statement. “J-Just get your candles and we can go home!” he stammered, walking away from the two quickly. Sun laughed and grabbed a different candle, his rays spinning happily as he smelled it.
“Smell this one! It smells like a campfire!” he said, holding the candle up to Dark Sun. Dark Sun sniffed it and smiled.
“I like that, put it in the cart…” he said, turning back to the shelf when one of the candles caught his eye. He carefully picked up the dark blue candle, looking it over and reading the label before smelling it. His own rays gave a quick spin before he could stop them.
“Ooooo, find one you like?” Sun asked, noticing. Dark Sun nodded and showed him the label.
“‘Rainy Lavender Fields’…. Oooo, that sounds delightful! Let’s get it!” Sun said, grinning. Dark Sun put the candle in the cart, a small smile on his face as he thought about maybe buying a second one to keep in his and Moon’s room.
Chapter 20: Dreams
Chapter Text
“What’s on your mind?” asked Moon, looking down at Dark Sun. The two were laying on the roof, staring up at the stars. Dark Sun hummed, lightly leaning against Moon in a rare moment of being comfortable with cuddling.
“Just…. Thinking…..” he replied, watching the stars above them twinkle.
“About?” asked Moon, lightly running his thumb over Dark Suns hand.
“….. the Sanctuary….. how it could’ve been…. How it…. It would’ve helped so many….” Dark Sun said quietly, his voice shaking a bit though he tried to hide it. Moon frowned and gently rested his chin on top of Dark Sun’s head. That’s right… much of what Dark Sun had done in the past had been because he was trying to build a sort of sanctuary dimension for Suns to escape from their abusive Moons. It had been a dream of his; one that never came about because Moon had refused to bend to the insanity that had nearly taken hold of him after Solar’s death.
“…. What would it have been like?” he asked, feeling Dark Sun look up at him momentarily.
“It…. Would’ve been a paradise….. no more fearing for their lives, no more abuse from their Moons…. There would’ve been houses, shops, even maybe a school for those Suns who had kids like Dazzle…. It… It would’ve been so peaceful….” Dark Sun said, sighing. Moon smiled slightly. Sure, Dark Sun had been going about achieving such a thing in the wrong way, but his heart had been in the right place. It still was, as even though things didn’t work out the former attendant never really let go of that dream.
“…. Maybe it can still happen….” Moon said quietly. This time Dark Sun pulled away to properly look up at him, eyes wide.
“W-What?” Dark Sun asked, not believing what he had just heard.
“We might not be able to do it the way you originally wanted to, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still make that dream of yours come true…. I don’t know how, but I’m sure we’ll figure it out…” Moon said, smiling. Dark Sun said nothing, but instead threw his arms around Moon’s neck in a tight hug. Moon hugged him back, gently kissing his boyfriend’s cheek. One way or another, he was going to make Dark Sun’s dream come true….
Chapter 21: Family Game Night
Chapter Text
“Are you sure about this Dark Sun? These nights can be a bit…. Intense, at times….” Moon asked, slowly helping Dark Sun down the stairs.
“I’m sure Moon…. Besides, I…. want to see what a Family Game Night is like….” Dark Sun said, giving Moon a grateful smile as they reached the couch a sat down. Moon smiled back, kissing the back of his hand. Dark Sun’s face glowed slightly in response, the glow disappearing as Sun walked in with his arms full of snacks.
“Here, let me help you Sun…” Moon said, getting up and taking some of the snacks from his brother.
“Thanks Moony!” Sun said, smiling as he and Moon began spreading the snacks over the table they had set up. Dark Sun watched with a smile, looking over as someone knocked on the front door.
“I’ll get it!” Jack said, running over to the door and opening it as Solar and KC started setting up the board game for the night.
“Hiiiii guys!” Terra said, entering with Monty, Cosmos, and Cici. Cosmos ran over and practically threw himself into one of the beanbags, raising an eyebrow at the board game that Solar and KC has chosen.
“Omega Virus? Haven’t heard of this game before….” he said, looking over the board once it was set up.
“It’s a pretty old game….. I used to play it all the time with Daybreak before the system corruption took him….. it involves cooperating with the other players over competing with them, so less chance of Sun crashing out over it….” Solar said, smirking as Sun glared at him.
“Oh trust me Solar…. Sun will find a way, he always does….” Monty said, snickering as Sun shot him an offended look.
“Hey! I can control myself in games! I’m not THAT competitive!” Sun said, earning laughs from the others.
“Sun, yes you are…. You threw a fit over not having a green in Uno once!” Moon said, snickering. Sun glared at him.
“I’ll show you! I can keep my cool during Family Game Night!” Sun challenged, clenching his teeth as he sat down for the game. Surprisingly, he did manage to keep his cool….. for the first couple of games. The third game of the night, Monopoly, was a completely different story.
“STOP TAKING ALL OF MY MONEY!!!” Sun screamed at Eclipse, who had arrived with Ruin and the kids midway through the previous game of Clue. Eclipse snickered, glad Ruin had decided to take the kids outside just in case Sun’s rage got out of hand.
“What happened to keeping your cool, Sun?” asked KC, tilting his head.
“SHUT UP! THAT WAS BEFORE YOU ALL STARTED TAKING MY MONEY!” Sun yelled, slamming his hands on the table. The action made Dark Sun visibly jump and flinch, his eyes wide as he watched his counterpart rage. He had seen Sun rage before, but he had never let it show how much the other’s anger during games had affected him. However, since he no longer needed to try to hide behind a mask a stoicism, Dark Sun could feel himself flinch at each shout and he could feel himself starting to shake.
“Hey, you ok?” asked Moon, noticing Dark Sun’s reactions out of the corner of his eye. He gently placed a hand on Dark Sun’s shoulder, frowning when the other flinched away.
“Sun, I think you need to calm down….” Terra lightly suggested, also noticing Dark Sun’s behavior.
“CALM DOWN?! HOW CAN I WHEN-?!”
“SUNRISE!” Moon shouted, startling Sun out of his rant. Moon almost never used Sun’s full name, and looking over Sun could see why he did in this instance: Dark Sun was breathing heavily, curled in on himself with tears falling down his face as Moon was trying desperately to calm him down.
“Hey, hey look at me….. you’re fine, you’re okay…..” Moon said softly, trying to comfort him. Sun immediately felt guilty and tried to help, only for Dark Sun to flinch away when Sun tried to touch him.
“Take him upstairs…. Maybe some quiet in your room will help….” Terra said, equally concerned. Moon nodded, making sure it was okay with his boyfriend before picking him up and carrying him upstairs. Once in their room Moon shut the door and simply sat on the bed with Dark Sun, comforting him through the panic attack he was clearly having.
“……… I-I’m sorry…..” Dark Sun whispered after a while, burying his face in Moon’s shoulder. He felt guilty for ruining Family Game Night because he couldn’t keep his emotions in check.
“Don’t…. you have nothing to be sorry about….. perhaps it’s best to wait for you to join another game night, at least for a while…..” Moon said, resting his head on Dark Sun’s. Dark Sun nodded, the two sitting in silence for the rest of the night.
Chapter 22: Sight
Chapter Text
Dark Sun had always had pretty bad eyesight. He’d always have trouble reading things and would have to squint to see things clearly. Unfortunately, his brother had never believed him and always told him that screw-ups with entered data and such were due to incompetence instead, the moon model having to take over anything regarding reading after a while. Dark Sun eventually stopped trying to convince his brother, and even when he became ‘Dark’ Sun he still never got glasses because he believed he didn’t deserve them… Until Moon gave him his first pair.
It had been a whole new world opened up to Dark Sun. He could see everything so clearly; He could properly read for the first time, and he could see the little details in objects instead of just blurry, colored blobs. This particular day had been no different…. Until the Daycare opened.
“Boys, please behave!” Sun shouted, running after a group of especially rowdy boys who had been dropped off earlier. Dark Sun looked up, watching his counterpart chase the group of boys from the security desk. Moon and Sun had to practically beg Fazbear’s to let Dark Sun work with them, and even then they had only managed to get him a position as a secretary for the Daycare. Not that he minded; While he did miss many of the kids of his old dimension, he did NOT miss having to chase the troublemakers around.
“Can’t catch us Sun Man!” one of the boys yelled, he and his friends starting to climb the netting of the playplace.
“Boys, don’t climb on that!” Moon scolded, running over to try and help Sun. Dark Sun sighed, rubbing his temples. He turned back to the computer to try and block them out as he worked on tomorrow’s schedule. He managed to work for a few more minutes before he heard Moon shout his name in a panic. He looked up…..
And instantly felt pain. His vision blacked out and he heard a sickening crunch as he fell to the floor, his systems immediately entering a reboot.
“-un….. Da-…. DARK SUN! WAKE UP!” Moon’s voice came through as Dark Sun’s systems finished rebooting, groaning as his pain receptors instantly registered intense pain in his faceplate. His optics came online slowly to find Moon and surprisingly Terra and Solar kneeling over him, except…. Except all he could see colored blobs, only recognizing who was over him due to recognizing the colors.
“M-My head…..” he said, slowly sitting up with Moon and Terra’s help. He barely registered Sun nearby talking to someone.
“Easy….” Solar said, having Dark Sun look at him and checking his optics and faceplate. Dark Sun winced slightly, then froze as he moved his hand and felt what could only be broken glass next to him on the floor.
“W-What happened?” Dark Sun asked, trying to look down only to have Solar stop him. After a couple of minutes he was told he had a small scratch in his faceplate, but thankfully that was the only damage. Terra, by this time, had cleaned up whatever glass he had felt, and he was finally told what happened: One of the boys from the rowdy group had grabbed one of the barrels, the group playing keep-away with it as Sun tried to take it from them. At some point one of them, a boy who was pretty big and strong for his age threw it to one of his friends, but had thrown it so hard it had sailed over the poor kid and wound up smashing into Dark Sun’s face at full speed, knocking him unconscious and shattering his glasses as a result.
“M-My glasses are… b-broken?” he asked, feeling his face to find that, indeed, he no long had them on. He was upset; those had been the first gift Moon had given him since they started their relationship, and to have them broken so recklessly hurt.
“We’ll get you another pair, I promise….” Moon said, comforting Dark Sun. Dark Sun nodded, but since he could no longer see properly he couldn’t work, though Terra quickly took up the remaining workload while he was made to rest. Once the day was over, Moon kept his promise and took Dark Sun to the nearest eye doctor, and by the time they were done Dark Sun had a brand new pair of dark red glasses that suited him perfectly.
