What do you plan with Ironwood here? Is the blame going to still be on him? When everyone around him literally sabotaged every effort he made to protect Atlas? I hope that in the end his actions will actually bare fruit and save Atlas, season 8 was just an dumpster fire. So I wanted to know if this fic will be somewhat where Ironwood is definitely almost correct in his actions.
As I’ve said in a different comment, I plan to make Ironwood a lot more measured and controlled in his actions. In canon he went from helping to shooting everybody in like two episodes and that feels a bit too sudden for me for him to just be making sense one moment and be nuts the next. He’s not going to be 100% right all the time and I’ll show that through the fic but he does genuinely have the best intentions. Saving Mantle/Atlas is probably not realistic in its entirety because sometimes things don’t work out but I’m improvising a lot of the story so I don’t get bored with it so who knows.
For now I just want a more gradual take on Ironwood’s descent where RWBY largely doesn’t get in his way since Ruby is out of the picture. He’s going to try his best, do everything he can to the best of his abilities and should he fail even then he won’t be able to handle it and will get even more desperate. Ironwood is one of my favorite characters and instead of being a main antagonist I want to give him more depth and complexity so he’s more of a morally grey deuteragonist.
Sorry for rambling a bit but those are my thoughts on Ironwood. TL;DR some blame will be on him because he’s not perfect but his actions are a lot more justified/understandable than in canon. That’s my goal anyway. Thanks for reading and commenting!
