All he knew was that a strange boy in even stranger clothes had just been spat out by the sea, right onto his doorstep.
The second time was a much different affair.

“I thought Percy was your person.” Her eyes flash as they always do when his name is mentioned. “Yeah, well I thought so too.” Annabeth laughs and it sounds hollow. “He’s not here is he? He left me- left us, but he has Rachel now, so I guess we’re even.” Silena doesn’t miss the way her voice trembles slightly. She wraps an arm around her, rubbing small circles on her back. “You miss him.” It’s not a question, they both know the answer anyway. “Yeah.” They sit like that for a minute, before Annabeth speaks again. “I don’t know that I do love Connor. I think-” She swallows, hard. It’s as if her words are glass in her throat. She meets Silena’s eyes for the first time that night, and Silena nearly drowns in the pain reflected in them. “You love Percy.” Again, not a question, considering the whole camp knows the answer, but Annabeth nods, once, almost imperceptibly, but it’s a nod nonetheless.
