Summary
When a Dwarf dies, it is tradition to write them letters. They are placed in the tomb, for the dwarf to read in the after life, so they have something of their friends and family until they can join them. When Thorin, Fili and Kili die after the Battle of Five Armies The Company writes letters for their lost friends.
