Summary
Set in Cañon City, Colorado (1894), John has yet to warm up to the newly arrived working girl, Abigail (thank you, pimp Uncle). He can’t get used to the fact that she can open her legs to everyone but him, and it gnaws at him more than he wants to admit. Conflicted and stubborn, he doesn’t even know if he likes her—or if he’s just jealous. Meanwhile, Arthur watches with quiet amusement, clearly seeing John as the new butt of the joke, and John feels every glance and smirk like a silent jab.

It was almost nine years ago, and John Marston had found acceptance in Arthur being gone, despite what he initially believed as him having accepted it already. But it didn’t stop him from thinking about the man who saved him and his family; it likely never would. It didn’t stop him from feeling a gnaw ache in his heart, sore enough for him to lightly tug onto it through his vest. For a time when John wanted no involvement in any conversation surrounding Arthur, that he was gone and that there was nothing more to it - perhaps he was more so trying to convince someone else of that notion rather than his wife and son.
Or: John goes to visit Arthur's grave as usual, only to see a familiar face standing before his grave. The two reconnect and have a heart-to-heart over their mutual loss.
