Tommy felt like he couldn’t breathe as panic clawed at his ribcage and sunk itself deep into his heart. Surely Dream was kidding? Surely Dream would wheeze out a laugh and jokingly berade Tommy for how scared he looked, say that it was just a joke. “You’re going to TheFirstEmpire. You’re going to become one of Philza’s humans,”
It felt like his whole world had been flipped upside down and mercilessly shook.
Every part of him wanted to believe Dream was lying.. He wanted to beg, plead, get down on his knees and cry for Dream to do something because Tommy didn’t want to leave!He didn’t want to be some dumb peace offering to another coven! He didn’t want to leave Dream, even as mean and cruel as he could be.

The adrenaline was slowly seeping away at this point, ragged breaths escaping him as he stared down at the defeated alien.
This was literally the worst possible outcome that could’ve come from his and his foster mothers’ argument. Like, he expected maybe a scolding when he got back, or at worst the police called on him for running away, but no. Honest to god aliens.Or,
Humans are a young race, and Tommy, a particularly volatile human, is plucked from his home and forced to survive in a foreign land. It certainly doesn't help with the fact that the whole of galactic society is under the impression humans lack the ability for complex thought.
OR, OR, tommy is a sewer rat and the rest of space is new york city and everyone is irrationally terrified of the rat. -

When the teleportation rune landed them in an unknown territory, Sam was prepared to improvise. He’d come too far, after all, to let Eret slip from his grasp before he got the answers for which he’d been so desperately searching. It didn’t matter all that much anyway, all he had to do was buy enough time for Lindsay and Marquess Manifold’s workers to track them down to the new location.
Except things seem to go off the rails almost immediately, and returning home wasn't as easy a task as simply activating the correct teleportation rune.
For better or worse, he and Eret were stuck, leaving Sam with limited options on how to move forward. He wasn’t sure if it helped that they were now surrounded by genius outcasts as they tried to find their way home, but whatever happened, he would protect his family.

He stopped to look over himself in the mirror. His hair was still dripping and he had a couple bruises littering his face. Tommy also took note of the small scrape at the bottom left side of his jaw. He definitely looked like he’d gotten into another fight. His family was definitely going to be worried about that, he might even get a scolding from his dad about fighting. He was not looking forward to that tonight.
He sighed as he approached the door. Slowly turning the knob and pushing it open. Whatever he was expecting to find at eight something at night, it wasn’t this. In front of him sat his brother in a wooden dining chair, with a few drops of blood on his yellow sweater, holding a handful of tissues to his nose. His father stood in front of him, ice pack in hand, black wings bristled from worry. They only seemed to stand up more as the older man looked over Tommy.

Phil couldn’t even remember why he decided it was a good idea. Maybe something in his subconscious told him he had to. Maybe it was his destiny. Maybe it was simply a coincidence that he was there.
Maybe he just missed the feeling of saving people. Maybe he felt guilty that he couldn’t do more for this falling apart city. Maybe he believed that if he didn’t follow the soft whimpers, no one would. Maybe he was lonely.
Maybe Phil wanted a family. Maybe Phil missed the connections he’d made, the small friendships he’d had with fellow vigilantes. Maybe he missed the past, maybe he hoped for it to happen again. Maybe he hoped it didn’t.
Maybe there was no reason he turned into that alleyway. Maybe it was pure luck.
