Patrick has gone his entire life without change. He can no longer resist the bloodlust that has been growing stronger day by day and has decided to kill someone other than a cheap hooker: his co-worker, Paul Allen, because who can stand that guy?
When the time arises to swing the ax, something happens, and it throws Patrick off his game. Maybe it was the Xanax he took that led him to go along with it, or maybe Patrick, without truly understanding, was ready to accept change in his life for once. Just a small change, though. But that in itself has its own problems. Like unexpected feelings. Then again, those may not be so bad once you get used to them (if that's possible).

Patrick Bateman is going to kill Paul Allen. The stage is set, the soundtrack has begun, the axe is ready to swing...but in a temporary lapse of judgement, he hesitates. The pause costs him his dignity, his kill, and now potentially life as he knows it. His mask slips for the briefest of moments, but it is enough to show Allen who really lies behind the carefully curated facade.
As if tackling his newfound feelings towards his sworn enemy wasn't enough, Patrick has another problem to contend with. Someone is following him everywhere. Paul says it's paranoia, but Patrick knows that isn't the case. He's not really the one who killed all those people, is he?
