“Consulting star-maps and cross-referencing with our databases,” Querl answered this matter-of-factly and not at all like he had combed the night sky looking for the star that belonged to her a thousand years ago.
He seemed to notice her staring at him and cleared his throat, looking away from her quickly, “It was an interesting thought exercise.”
Kara laid her head on his shoulder, pulling him into a hug that smelled like disinfectant and something that was entirely him.
“Thank you. I mean it,” Krypton was still lost, still out of reach, but Querl had found a piece of it for her, one she could find just looking up at the stars at night, her home shining brightly back at her.
Querl eventually relaxed, his body losing its rigidity as she hugged him. His face was still tilted up towards the sky but his eyes were closed, “of course.” -
