Well, only if you don't look at his biology ever since the radioactive spider bite. And his extensive track record of running away and deaths in his life. And that his foster-dad is Tony Stark. And that his mentors are the Avengers. And the fact that he was randomly kidnapped one morning on his way to school and now he's in an alternate universe with a bunch of different superheroes that keep stalking him.

    He thinks they mean well, but they're really weird. Besides that Red Hood guy. He's pretty cool.

    Harry Potter was absolutely, unashamedly, done.
    First, Voldy uses a Ritual to bring his pasty snake ass back to life, killing Cedric- which, by the way, thanks for the extra trauma.
    Second, Harry goes through a lovely year of being tortured with a damn writing utensil and ends up in Azkaban after the Battle of the Department of Mysteries- which Dumbledore chose not to prevent.
    So, y'know, fuck him.

    One year later Harry gets released... only to find out he has to go back to the Dursley's; which, no thanks- his cell in Azkaban was looking rather comfy, in comparison to that hell hole.

    Luckily for the plot, Sirius knows of Harry's true parentage and decides it'll be better for everyone if Harry just pops over to America to be emancipated so he could then live with his godfather; it's not like this Tony Stark guy will put up much of a fuss right?
    Right???

      When the day of the press conference rolls around, Tony has the drafts for further ventures into clean energy, notes for his prosthetics reveal, suggested criteria for his scholarship programme and all the rage he never got closure for regarding the Rogues.

      They wanted a villain, now they would have one.
      And the world will love him.

      Tony walks into the room, and he feels at home amidst the blinding flashes, blurred faces, and cacophony of questions and remarks.
      Then, the spectacle begins.

      Unexpectedly intelligent blue eyes flicker between Stephen and Tony's faces, to the food, the film, and back again. The teen ignores the curious
      'Harls?' that comes from the tablet, mind visibly whirring to process what he's seeing, and Stephen feels his stomach drop when the boy's face splits into a disturbingly familiar mischievous grin.

      "Petey!" The kid hollers, schadenfreude glimmering in his eyes in the split-second he seems to meet Stephen's gaze, then he glances back at the tablet in his hands, his smirk Machiavellian to Stephen's eyes. "Dad's on a date!"

      And then he turns on his heel and sprints out of the penthouse, thundering down the stairs and slamming the door behind him, leaving stunned silence in his wake, the final battle of the Hobbit long forgotten.

    Summary

    In the months following the Battle of New York, the Avengers have decided to stick together. The universe is a lot bigger and weirder than they previously thought, so someone should be around to defend the Earth, right? And no one will say it out loud, but they also formed a pretty strong bond and have become like a family. (A messy, insane, super-powered family.)

    This series takes place in an alternate universe where the Avengers act as “heroes by consultation" for SHIELD, a lot like how Sherlock is the consulting detective for the Scotland Yard. Basically, the Avengers are not officially working for SHIELD, but Fury calls them in when a threat is too big/weird for even special ops SHIELD agents to handle. This means that Fury has an incentive to take care of some of the more annoying stuff for them (he keeps the military off Bruce’s trail, for example) but the Avengers are still relatively free to pursue their own interests.

    (Also, fanon tropes like Ceiling Vent Clint Barton and Thor loving Pop Tarts are alive and well in this `verse.)
