A white shiba inu darts through a moonlit alleyway, his lean shadow sweeping across weathered brick walls as he zigzags to and thro. He rounds a sharp corner, sending an empty can tumbling to the side, the tinkering of the aluminium ringing out in the quiet night. Abruptly, the dog slows to a stop, small paws skidding across the concrete. The shiba, Nakajima Atsushi, cocks his head, suddenly alert. Atop his head, silvery fur sticks out in jagged, uneven tufts, reminiscent of the world’s worst haircut (but on a dog).
“Something terrible is happening,” Atsushi murmurs.
