Reality hasn’t quite sunk in yet, he thinks.
It’s not until he takes a step back, not until his foot crunches on something hard and triangular, that the sheer weight of what’s happened crashes down on him. His body is trembling, his stomach churning, and there’s a hot stinging pain behind his eyes as he lifts his leg to get a look at what he just stepped on.
It’s no bigger than a bottle cap. Could be some bit of debris, but no, it’s caked in blood and patterned with an unmistakable texture. The little piece of shell is like a knife—it even drew a bit of blood from the bottom of his toe. And dammit, it’s not the only piece. He’s standing in a minefield of shattered turtle shell.
Raphael thinks he might puke.

It sounded so simple and sincere coming from him that for a moment Raph couldn't even remember where he had gotten the idea to say otherwise.
“I know,” he sighed. “It's just... Raph kind of panicked, I guess. Mona says, I'm afraid of the 'empty nest' or something.” He smiled, mostly because he really liked saying that name. “And that it's normal, and I just need to, you know. Deal with it. Get on with my own life, like you said.”
Mikey froze and slowly slid out of his arms back to the ground.
“Who's Mona?”

Comprehension passes across Leo’s face as he hears his brother’s surprise. “He doesn’t even let us in there,” Leo says pointedly. Mikey and Leo exchange a look, almost having a silent conversation through eye contact alone.

He gritted his teeth as he tried not to fall flat on his face and noted somewhere in the back of his mind that his brothers and Amy and Rory weren’t fairing any better. You’d think the other two would be used to this by now, if they did this a lot. The Doctor was unfazed by all the commotion, running around the control thingie, limbs going in all directions like a drunk octopus as he piloted the thing. Assuming he wasn’t bullshitting them and they weren’t about to die horrible deaths. With their luck that was still a very real possibility."

I’m trying, Raph thought, but he wasn’t supposed to speak, so he held his breath and went as still as he possibly could. Slowly, carefully, he let the breath out and forced his body to relax. Relax. Relax. He was supposed to relax. That’s what meditation was for.
Or, Raph hates meditation. It's just another thing that makes him a disappointment.

“Booooo! No, you know the rules! No seriousness on Lazy Sundays!” Mikey is a big proprietor of lazy days and makes sure everyone follows the rules of having a stress free day. It works only because it guilts them all to rest, if only so Mikey isn’t stressing about them not resting.
“It’s Thursday Micheal.”
“Yeah but it has the spirit of Lazy Sunday”
“Guys!” Raph’s outburst brings their attention back to him, but their deadpan stares show they still don’t appreciate the seriousness Raph is trying to infringe upon their relaxation.
“Guys, we got a code Sleepy Slider on our hands.” Raph’s voice is grim, his face shadowed with the weight of the situation they find themselves in.
With the code spoken, Donnie and Mikey sit at attention.

It feels like Raphael’s world is crumbling all around him. Just when things were finally kind of great for him, the universe ripped it all out from under his feet.
But then Leo wakes up. A week later, after a hectic night where Leo’s broken body struggles to lay eggs, Raph receives some news that will change his life forever. Suddenly, the world doesn’t feel so doomed.
