Summary
After Perceptor pulled the stunt of interfacing in the lab (very out of character; it's a shame Brainstorm hadn't thought of it himself), it was the best course of action now that Ratchet had banned them both from lab activities.
Brainstorm had been dealing with nosy friends checking in and trying to get the inside information on why both of the resident scientists were missing from action, but instead dropping away from their inquisition at seeing Brainstorm's tired eyes as he answered the door.

"The first time Rodimus died, he was transported a mere 10 hours into the past. He knew about Unicron ahead of time. He had enough time to warn everyone about how the fight would go, enough time to draw up new battleplans over the course of a couple days, but not enough to realize that Unicron had held onto the same memories that he did until it was too late. Rodimus died again, his crew screaming as their shuttle was ripped open by Unicrons’ lasers, disintegrating where they stood."
Rodimus Prime failed often, usually at the cost of lives be they other peoples' or his own. The matrix revived him every time he did, putting him back into the past before his death. Each time he died, the amount of time he was sent backwards got extended, until eventually Rodimus is returned to his pre-prime body. Now Hot Rod again (and extremely jaded), he'll do everything in his power to stop himself from being put in a position to fail time and time again. Hot Rod will save his team, save his leader, save his family, if it's the last thing he does.

Or rather, it began after one of those peculiarly novel days, long after both suns had set, and no metal gleamed with anything other than the warm light of streetlamps and bedroom windows. Within one of these windows, upon his two-mech berth with its exorbitantly thick padding and new-age recharging capabilities, sat Optimus Prime. Optimus Prime was of that same gleam-capable metal which adorned his planet now, armor unmarred by war and plating remade in peace, and the bedroom light dutifully shone off of him in a spectacular show of cozy resplendence. Also shining were the tears that filmed the inside of his digits.

Ratchet moonlights as a medic in the Dead End behind the Senate's back. While tensions rise between Cybertron and her colonies over energon shortages and a large energon reserve discovered in a massive asteroid belt in the region occupied by the planet Secunda. To undermine them, the senate leans towards Functionism and replaces the docile Nominus Prime with the more zealous Sentinel Prime and re-establish old rights of the Prime; lifting the position out of the ceremonial and back to head of military under the pretenses of home-grown terrorism. The senators of Cybertron didn't foresee loosing control of their preferred weapon, wielding his new power to stop the terrorist cells.
