Owen didn't expect to end up liking the kid this much.But he had looked... He'd looked forlorn, sat in the back of that ugly car, like a puppy that had been told to wait outside or something. And he was just so damn awkward all the time, all wide eyes and hunched shoulders. (Owen remembers when he hadn't been too different, although his head was ducked, eyes narrowed, until one day-)
So, sure, Owen took pity on the kid. Duncan. And he's far too glad when the kid begins to loosen up, gain some confidence, all that shit.
And if he also ends up kinda considering the kid as something a bit like a son, then, well, it's not like the kid's actual Dad is there to do the same.
