Summary
Most of the challenges that Ted Lasso encounters when he begins coaching at AFC Richmond were more or less what he expected: still not really understanding soccer, people getting upset when he says things like 'soccer,' etc. He's got a whole new team full of players to get to know, who've all got their own stuff going on.
The part he didn't see coming is the kid he meets on his first day. Ted quickly learns a few things: his name is Jamie, he's fifteen years old, and he's the part-time groundskeeper's assistant at Nelson Road. The more time Ted spends with him, the more he learns about where Jamie fits into the Richmond ecosystem, and the more concerns he develops about just what, exactly, is going on in the kid's life outside of this building.
It's going to take Ted's determination and patience, an unlikely main ally in Roy Kent, the entire Richmond community, and Jamie's own willingness to be brave enough to let someone help him to stop Jamie from drowning. Then maybe, just maybe, they can bring him safe onto dry land.
(AU that follows the events of the three seasons of the show, with one major difference. completely gen, no ships.)

Summary
’Cause, see, it’s been nearly a month since Wembley and no one’s said a word about it. They were all there in that room with him, weren’t they; they witnessed what happened with their own eyes. The horrible words, jagged and serrated like a knife’s edge. The prowling, commanding grace of a predator that’s caught its prey between its teeth but hasn’t bitten yet. And then—
Then Jamie, knuckles bruised before he even realized he’d thrown a punch. Jamie, standing there in his socks. Jamie, looming above his Da as his Da skittered back across the tile, fingers to his jaw, curled protectively around the soft parts of his stomach. Jamie, the monster. The one that nobody can get close to. The one that destroys everything it touches.
He can’t sleep. When he tries, that’s the only thing he sees, in the dark behind his eyelids: Ruin.
[ post-wembley, jamie is drowning and terrified of asking for help he doesn't believe he deserves. cue a fretful team, a lot of well-meaning but fumbling attempts at connection, one thousand bajillion hugs, a few homemade brownies, and a jamie tartt on his way to something like healing. ]

Summary
The sun is only just barely rising. The rest of London— the normal people, anyway— are starting to wake up. Days are just beginning all around them.
And, beside Roy Kent’s bed, Jamie Tartt fights to get a cup of children’s medicine into the man who, unfortunately, may now be his best friend— as well as the man he has a horrifying crush on and the person who might like him the least on this entire planet.
Fuck.
“Just— Open your fucking mouth,” Jamie attempts to order him, and wishes he could be saying this to Roy in a vastly different context.
or: roy comes down with a horrible flu. jamie is in the exact right position to nurse the love of his life back to health. only, roy doesn't know he's the love of jamie's life, so— fuck.

Summary
Jamie is the live-in housekeeper for a professional footballer. He is not in love with him.
Jamie's settled into Roy's house enough to shrug off anniversaries. The day he first moved in. The night he first kissed Roy’s cold pillow. The first time Roy came home and didn't speak to him. Jamie's numb this sort of thing, now. Roy has no idea what he's doing to him. It wracks convulsions through his body. Marking X's on the calendar is like counting down to Jamie’s death. Waiting for Roy to come home and ignore him.
At least his scent will be in the air.

Summary
“Quit fucking with me,” Jamie said. The backs of his eyes burned. “Both of you look like you’ve gone through a goddamn time machine. I don’t know where the hell I am. Just. Just. Just, c’mon, tell me what the fuck’s going on. Did he—did I get a concussion? Is that what this is? I fell into a coma and now everything’s turned on its head?”
“You didn’t get a concussion,” Not-Sam rushed to reassure him.
“And we haven’t gone through a time machine,” said Not-Roy, and then, after an electric-wire pause: “But you might have.”
[ or: in the middle of a 33-year-old jamie tartt's retirement party, a fuckery of the universe occurs and a 23-year-old jamie is suddenly standing up on that stage instead - and he's got no memory of the last ten years at all. ]

Summary
Jamie's been fighting himself every since he was little. It's been worth it up till now, he's always felt the need to stick it out and push forward. So it's no surprise to him when he can't find the strength to keep going.
a.k.a I hurt Jamie Tartt but with depression and self-harm to really round it out. 'tis the season.
"Perhaps that’s why it was so clear when it was his time to go. He’d always been an Icarus, flying too low or too high, letting the darkness nip at his heels and threaten to send him plummeting out of the sky. But he’d always straighten his course out. Always fall back into the regular, stable tension that kept him alive.
He wasn’t going anywhere this time. He tries to pull himself out of it, he really does. He drags metal across his legs to try and bleed the apathy out of him but it just won’t leave. He knows when he’s been beat. He’s fucking exhausted."

Manchester has the signed poster of Roy Kent. Manchester has the smell of freshly-baked cookies and melted chocolate. Manchester has his mum’s perfume and his dad’s cologne. Manchester has the same kind of Lynx he’s used since he was a teenager.
Manchester is so full of smoke and memories that Jamie can’t see who he was, and can’t see who he will be, and he’s really fucking close to screaming from the rooftops because the only thing he can see is the route to the Etihad and the route that takes him really fucking far away from the Etihad.~~~

Summary
Jamie has this dream, sometimes. It starts, and he can’t breathe, and he can’t wake up.
It’s like: He’s in a car, and he’s driving real fucking fast, and for some reason it’s dark out and he can’t see for shit but he’s still not slowing down.
It’s like: He doesn’t want to slow down.
It’s like: He’s in a car, and he’s driving real fucking fast, and for some reason it’s dark out and he can’t see for shit but he’s still not slowing down and there’s a cliff rising in front of him, closer and closer and closer, and he might not be able to see for shit but for some reason he can see that cliff and the empty abyss beyond it.
It’s like: He knows the cliff is coming and he doesn’t want to slow down.
Jamie has this dream, sometimes. It ends, and he wakes up, and he still can’t breathe.

Summary
If Jamie could spend the rest of his life held in someone’s arms, he would in a heartbeat. Well, he’d need to be let go to play football, he supposes, but the rest of the time would be good enough.
For Roy, touch is just another way to show he cares. He’s fucking shit at words, but he makes up for it in physical contact when he wants to.
And for both of them, touch is something rare and precious. An indulgence. A want. A need. And its absence causes an ache that neither will ever confront.
It'd be a real shame if they just happened to have to.

Summary
“I don’t want to see him again,” he says, hoping that leading with the part he knows Ted probably won’t have an issue with might make the next bit less difficult, “and I know you didn’t say that I should, but I also don’t… I tried, and I don’t want to forgive him neither. And that one you did say I should do, and I know you said it was for me and not for him, but it still feels like- like saying nothing he did mattered."
Jamie takes Ted's advice to heart - he forgives. Or he tries to. But it doesn't make things better. It doesn't free him from anything, and the text he sent his father makes everything so much worse, even though it hasn't been answered yet. When Jamie reaches his breaking point, he goes through a series of three conversations, seeking help determining whether something is wrong with him, whether it's okay to not forgive, and whether it's okay to decide that he's done trying.

Summary
The second time that Jamie shows up, smirking and announcing that he can't participate in training because he's hurt is so much worse than the first time. He's changed a lot, grown up a lot, and no one knows why he's acting like this again when he's put so much time and effort into not being that person anymore. It feels like history is repeating itself, except... something isn't adding up.
Sam is the one who puts it together, who sees the proof that Jamie very much is hurt, and has led everyone to believe that he isn't by telling them that he is in a way that sounded like an obvious lie. It makes his head spin, and he doesn't know what to do. Thankfully, his team captain and his coaches are there to figure it out.
(Hypothetical season 3 timeline. Completely gen. Jamie is hurt in an accident. He doesn't handle it well.)

Summary
“So,” Trent starts, keeping his voice mild and professional. “We have all, by now, seen the footage from the unfortunate run-in you had with your father, the night of the twenty-fifth of April in the car park at Coventry City FC’s pitch.”
It would've been traumatic enough for Jamie's father to ruin Richmond's most recent victory in front of the whole team, but when the confrontation turns violent in front of a gaggle of reporters, the ensuing social media firestorm is even worse. Over the next two and a half weeks, Jamie will have to navigate the charges against his father, walk a gauntlet of publicity that he never asked for, and prepare to give the interview of a lifetime.
Luckily, Richmond has always been there to catch him on the other side.

Summary
After the locker room disaster in Manchester, Roy drives Jamie home. The chaos they find when they arrive at the house swiftly proves it is not a safe place to spend the night, forcing a change of plans and a reroute to Roy’s own home.
The following day Jamie experiences, in this order:
The most bewildering breakfast of his life, a penalty kick clinic with a seven-year-old, and an overwhelming display from his teammates that brings him face to face with the fact that not only has he been accepted back in Richmond it’s also possible he might be, in a way he can’t remotely process or understand, loved here.
