Summary
Disgraced and cast out, Claudia has spent the past three years attempting to repair her life from the shambles she was left in after Aaravos. Her road was painful, challenging, and long, and filled with way... way too many tears. Luckily, she's had the support of a few friends along the way, one of those being none other than the Dragon King himself, Azymondias. Finally, after years of painstaking work and healing, she receives an invitation from the dark magic legion. They are prepared to hear her case for re-induction, one of the final pillars of her life that she still needs to restore. Azymondias is all too happy to help her, but as the appointment approaches, Claudia seems far more nervous than she should be for such a happy occasion, and Zym begins to get the sense that something is really, really wrong.
Perhaps him coming along might've been more necessary for Claudia's well-being than he first thought...

Claudia liked to watch her at night, resting her unsteady temporary mortal limbs on the concrete steps connecting to the Seine. She poked her head above the barrier that separated her world from the human’s, resting it upon her long scaled fingers, stained crimson from her recent kill. She could feel the sweet ichor dripping down her mouth as she watched the copper-haired woman stitch by candlelight through her window just meters away. She was mesmerized.
She should want to kill her, but she didn’t.

A broken spine and a missing leg. One was healed and one was replaced. However it didn't go in the way they expected. It hurt to move in a certain way. It was impossible to run. They were unable to do certain things and because of that, their father gave up on them. At least they were able to find a family that didn't mind, even if said family is considered to be the enemy.

Summary
Claudia has been slowly recovering for the past few days, traveling throughout Del Bar in search of her mother. However, occasionally, events from her past still return to haunt her, and one night, she is violently ripped into the waking world from a nightmare stemming from an old memory. Luckily, she's not alone. Azymondias, the sky-blue dragon who had managed to track her down a couple of days pull her out of the spiral she was in, is here to offer his assistance. And so, with some persuasion from Zym, Claudia finally opens up about a deep trauma in her past that she had been hiding from virtually everyone.
"In Darkness There's Light" Is not required reading for this story; you should be able to understand it without it. However, this story does take place in between chapters 1 and 2 of that little fic, so if you want some extra context on why Claudia and Zym are traveling together, I would recommend at least reading chapter 1 of that before you begin this one, but again you don't have to. Predicting a being who always held more cards in his hand than she did was difficult. She'd resigned herself to searching for Aaravos, alone, figuring her best shot was going to Katolis Castle and cutting through whatever and whoever she had to.
His voice surprised her, a voice she could hear when some part of her mind seemed to buzz, a voice that she'd gotten used to only catching whispers of in her ear. Now, it spoke in her mind directly.
I'll come to you. Wait for me.
She stopped in the middle of the forest path she'd been taking west. "What?" she asked aloud. Aaravos had never been one to respond to her when she wanted, much to her fury. She spun around, as if he was really there, still not used to her makeshift new leg, stumbling slightly. "Aaravos, come on! I don't- I don't know what else to do!"
Of course he wasn't there.
Because no one was, nor would they be. Not anymore.

"I'm ready when you are," Claudia tells him, strapping the new knife pouch to her belt and pulling the hood over her hair. She can still see past the beak if she angles her head right, but it is still strange to be wearing it. Surely, though, she will quickly adjust.
