When Steve left Montana he promised himself he wouldn't return unless someone died-- happy to leave that world behind him. He thought he'd have several decades before he was dragged back to the ranch he used to call home. But Sara died. His big sister-- bringing him back to the family.
His family was far from traditional. It wasn't any wonder that it took one of them dying in a freak accident to get them all in the same place again. If that wasn't distressing enough, it became clear Steve's father would need more help with Sara being gone, forcing him to stick around longer.
On top of it all, his childhood sweetheart's presence on the ranch was impossible to ignore. Steve knew if he wasn't careful, it'd be all too easy to fall into his arms and never leave. The only issue was, if Jonathan learned his secret, there was no way he'd want a thing to do with Steve.

The music filtered softly from the deck above. The quartet played a romantic tune that seemed to drown out the rest of the world. It was only Eddie, Steve thought to himself. His dark eyes. His warm hands on Steve's waist as he was dipped in time with the music. Looking up at Eddie's face, it really did feel like it was just the two of them. The night sky, pitch black yet littered with twinkling stars, served as the breath-taking backdrop of this fated rendezvous.
"If you could go anywhere, be anywhere at all in the world, where would you go?" Eddie asked, sounding as breathless as Steve felt. It was as though Eddie really cared about what Steve's answer would be. Like Eddie would do anything to make it happen.
'Right here' was the answer Steve wanted to give. But the weight of that truth left him feeling dizzy.
