Summary
“I’ll do whatever you want, just, please.” Buck sobs out the last word, eyes burning with unshed tears.
“A vow.” The man leans uncomfortably close to Buck. The knife brushes against his neck, lightly scratching across the top layer of Buck’s skin. The man’s cold blue eyes hold Buck’s full attention. “That’s what I require. Sell me your allegiance.”
Buck stares back at the killer, unable to fully process what is being asked of him. He sees a flash of anger dance in the stranger’s gaze. He's impatient. Unpredictable. Fear pours into Buck's chest as he realizes he might not get a second chance at this. He has to make this count. “I vow to give you complete control over the remainder of my life. My body is yours to destroy—so long as you let my sister live and return safely to her family.”
__
Or, After Eddie leaves for Texas, Buck goes to seek comfort from his sister and walks in on her kidnapping. In order to save Maddie's life, Buck offers up his instead. Unintentionally agreeing to something worse than death.

Summary
Buck has always been the charismatic, go-getter firefighter with a penchant for making people laugh and jumping headfirst into dangerous situations. But for years, something about him felt off—like a piece of himself was missing or out of place. As his life continues to unfold, he starts to notice strange gaps in his memory, moments where his behaviour shifts inexplicably, and flashes of emotions he doesn't understand. When Eddie Diaz, the new firefighter, joins the 118, he begins to feel a shift in his life. Eddie, with his steady and empathetic presence, doesn’t shy away when his struggles surface. Instead, Eddie becomes an anchor, slowly helping him peel back the layers of confusion and uncover the truth—Buck has Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID).
With the unwavering support of everyone at the 118, he finds the courage to trust himself, his system, and the people around him, finding the strength to open up and let others in. Through love, patience, and acceptance, he learns that healing doesn't mean repressing or fixing the different parts of himself - it means embracing them and finding a way to live with them.

Summary
Buck was impulsive. It wasn’t necessarily his fault, after all, he was born for spare parts. Spare, defective parts. He had to make it up to the world somehow for being born, and for not being able to save his brother, Daniel. Firefighting, saving lives, seemed like the only way he could redeem himself; the only way to make himself worthy of love and life.
It wasn’t until one day when he changed up his routine. He woke up, washed himself and brushed his teeth, opened the fridge and grimaced in disgust, promptly closed it, and drove to work. The moment he saw the food sitting in the metal box, the hunger disappeared. And somehow, he felt just a bit better about himself.
For once, Buck had control over something in his life. Sure, his job was unpredictable-antagonising at times. And maybe it took a mental toll on him every so often. But one thing Buck knew was that he could control the way he looked and how he performed on duty. Then, maybe, he’d be able to save everyone and redeem himself too.
(OR: Buck has an eating disorder, unbeknownst to the rest of the 911, until a cause for concern is evident)

Summary
Evan Buckley has the worst luck. He knows it. His team knows it. Maddie dealt with it his entire upbringing. It’s become a simple fact of life. The sky is blue, grass is green, and Evan Buckley has god-awful luck. If a crushed leg (due to toppled fire truck), a pulmonary embolism at the ripe age of 27, being caught in a tsunami with his best friend’s son, and an honest to god lightning strike weren’t enough proof of the matter, stepping on a bomb is all the confirmation he really didn’t need.
Edmundo Diaz has faced far too much death in his lifetime to be afraid of it. In fact, he’s spent most of his life staring down the barrel of a gun, metaphorically and physically. Quite honestly, Santa Muerte himself could appear before Eddie’s very eyes and he would just count it as another Tuesday. So being in close proximity to a live explosive? Not even the worst thing he’s had to deal with in recent years. Really, not even the worst thing he's had to deal with this week. But his best friend standing on the trigger? Eddie’s never been afraid of death. Until he found himself standing between it and his best friend.
