"Is it often like this?"
Hawkeye's voice was so soft, Ed almost didn't hear it through the static clouding his head. He took a moment to breathe.
"Not often", he finally said. "This storm's a bad one, but usually I could just take it easy for the day. Get some rest. It passes. Just—"
He cut himself off with a sigh.
"Just ...?", Hawkeye prompted after a moment when he didn't continue.
Edward grimaced. "Well, the shitheads who have it out for me rudely don't give a fuck if I'm having a bad day or not. Really we should make them sign up on a schedule. Attempted murder on fair days only, please."

Edward knows not to push himself too much when the rain makes his scars ache and the strain of the automail on his body unbearable. Really, he does. It's just ... sometimes he's not given a choice.

Roy heaved a sigh as he stepped aside to let his mother in and closed the door behind her.
“While I appreciate the sentiment-” That was as far as he got before she spotted his little predicament–emphasis on little.
“Who’s this, then?” she said, studying the tiny heap of blankets and misery curled up on his couch with open interest, a slight crease of concern between furrowed brows.
Roy shoved his hands into his pants pockets and wandered over to join her.
“This is Ed. He took a dip into the river the other day, and here we are,” he said, and his mother turned to regard him with one of those looks he had never, and probably would never, be able to decipher.
Despite her open and well-deserved distaste for them, that woman was a politician at heart.
“This is your little menace?”

Summary
Dust still swirls in plumes around them, and he can still feel the shifting of debris as it settles. He sees his friends in only outlines, but their movements are clearly panicked and he still can’t really think but it scares him. His head hurts. His thoughts are like drifting clouds.
Edward wished the lightheartedness could have lasted, but it never did. He always found a way to smother it.-or-
Edward will never let somebody get hurt when it could be him instead. Roy Mustang just wants to keep the kid from killing himself before he's even a teenager.

Atsushi knew that he was one of the lucky people to have any ability at all, to be gifted with something like regeneration and the ability to stay alive in spite of everything—but he was also unlucky enough to be plagued with the presence of a parasitic tiger in his wake, one that was very much content with feeding off of his existence. In all honesty, Atsushi was not surprised by it. He was just so tired.
