‘Shit,’ Steve says, takes a single step back, swallows. ‘Eddie, I’m so sorry, fuck.’
Eddie can’t seem to look away, can’t bring his ethereal gaze back up where it belongs. Steve thinks he should run, he should flee. A tiny part of him knows Eddie will chase him. Eddie will catch him, outrun him easily.
It's more than a little fucked up how that thrills him.

Summary
A lull has hit Hawkins between the height of the fight with Vecna, and the looming of whatever is coming next. Steve is just doing his best to make it through each day- with little success. He fills his time up with volunteering and helping around town, but despite the reconvening of the Hopper-Byers household in Hawkins, he feels as if he is ultimately slipping further and further away.
But with the nature of Hawkins, a lull is always a farce, and with rumored attacks of victims bled dry, from seemingly no wound, Steve's life is sent for a whirlwind when a supposedly dead friend comes to him for help navigating his new found need- blood.
What does this mean for the world? Steve knows not. He is just simply trying to remember how to live again.
